If parity is defined as the number of different teams winning championships, then the NBA has the worst parity of all the major sports. Since 1979, only seven franchises have won the NBA title. During that time, the only teams to win have been the Lakers, Celtics, 76ers, Pistons, Bulls, Rockets and Spurs, with teams such as L.A. and Detroit having more than one run of dominance.

During the same period, Major League Baseball has had 18 different franchises win the World Series (including the cancelled 1994 series). The NFL has had 13 franchises win the Super Bowl, the NHL crowning 11 Stanley Cup winners.

During that time, salaries in basketball have gone up tremendously as the NBA has signed numerous TV contracts. It is the fans in the NBA who get screwed as most teams really don't have a realistic chance of winning the title. The players are making more, the agents are making more, the owners are making more and I am sure that David Stern and his groupies are paying themselves well so who is going to complain?

And yet everyone's always whining about the Yankees buying pennants.
