yeah yeah, christian slater.....i saw that flick and the soundtrack was pretty cool for most of you MTV losers......and late coming "indie" trenders.

but here's the gig: the electromagnetic spectrum is a public resource so "steal the air" is what Clear Channel and the FCC do....check the 1934 Communications Act.

I prefer to think that Clear Channel has hijacked it, and treat them like the terrorists they are.

what is the conflict? why wouldn't someone listen to pirate radio if it was stuff you liked?

i'm not that clear on the law, but having some central place to mange who has what frequency makes sense to me, otherwise someone with a bigger antenna with more power could just take out someone else's station

that whole illegal thing ;)

I'd listen to it as long as they play all of my favorite Top 40 hits. ;)

it's already bad enough in some places where one strong signal interferes with stations on frequencies close to it on the spectrum

would you really want your neigbor's FM transmitter for their iPod or something taking over your local radio stations?

what's illegal about listening to it?

since it's considered an illegal broadcast, one listening it to it could be busted as an accomplice.

Yeah, but theoretically how would you know it was an illegal pirate station? Unless they go around announcing "Hey, we're a pirate radio station, DON'T TELL ANYONE!" where normal stations do their commercial bumps.
