this morning was a bad mutha, some pretty old trees are now nice mulch for some gardens.
I tried going south on Harvard around 4pm and the street was still blocked off...it's going to be a long night for people without power trying to get AEP to fix those downed lines.

Tulsa had a downdraft around 6am this morning that blew down trees in the area of 11th to 31st between lewis to yale.

Downdraft-A small-scale column of air that rapidly sinks toward the ground, usually accompanied by precipitation as in a shower or thunderstorm.

weird, that doesn't sound like something that would take out trees

i used to live in that area, like 26th and Florence

My sister works in the midtown area and they were without power all day. No idea when they are getting it back and she may have to work through the weekend to make up lost production.(She's the editor for Oklahoma magazine) Not sure why I told you that except that she may get to miss our family reunion this weekend and I am jealous.

I was at 21st and Yale at 5:45 am.

It was like a Hurricane.

A NWS meterologist said it was very similar to a low strength hurricane.

I thought I was gonna see Anderson Cooper go flying by at 15th and Yale.

Lightning hit the transformer there and the Street lights and everything west of Yale went black in an instant.

I got the day off work!

My building is without power because of the storm. Say it should be restored anywhere from 11pm tonight to 6am Thursday morning. Here's hoping it's the latter.

Man, that was some kinda wind.

Now multiply that by 1 and a half.........and for 3 hours constantly. And make a path 100 miles wide. Then you get a hurricane.

yeah but Slickdaddy,

Remember, you people in hurricane country have about a week's warning. "Ladies and gentlemen, be advised, in 5 days now, hurricane Boner will make landfall at Shrimpville, MS at 1100pm and models indicate it will track north-northeast from there, etc." IOW, if a person gets hurt or killed in a hurricane, its their own dayum fault.

Tornaders and micro-bursts are difficult to predict more than a few minutes before they hammer someplace. That's why I think they are scarier.

Yeah, that is right. I GTFO of here a day before all hell broke loose. I've been in an F1 tornado too and I was more terrified then. Grabbed the nearest blonde girl and layed on the floor. (haha)

About five years ago there was a downburst in NW OKC.

A buddy and I were going to see some Adam Sandler movie. When we pulled up to the theatre, every car in the parking lot had their windows smashed out. No power on that whole side of the highway. The people in the theatre said it sounded like lightning struck the building or something.

Totally surreal.

For the record, they are properly called micro-bursts people.

That is all.

Dunno, it was right in the area that was hit the hardest.
I was going that way(up harvard from 15th)and didn't notice, but that church on the west side of the street got slammed.....ripped a good portion of the roof off.
Bells was also hit very hard...its amazing more homes were not damaged.
