My wife got a bill from the hospital for a procedure she had done.
Follow along, shall we? (http://www.memorialhermann.org/ForPatients/patientBilling2.htm)
OK, for total charges (#15) is $1263.00
Total insurance payments (#16) is $442.07
Total patient payments (#17) is $140 which is the amount she paid when she had it done.
Total Adjustments (#18) is $631.49
Balance Due (#19) is $49.44
My question is: What the hell are "total adjustments"? I have no problem with paying $49.44 for a $1,200 procedure, but will this "total adjustment" come bite me on the ***?
Can someone explain it to me? I guess I can wait until the morning when we can call, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this.
