He's not a dolt; he's an elderly Heat fan who sees a chance to take out the Mavs' star and clinch the title before he dies next week. :D

I guess it all depends on when those misses occur.

When they occur in crunch time and miss both of your shots during a trip to the line, that figure gets magnified.

They count one point at the beggining of the game and one point at the end of a game. To tie, the Mavs needed to shoot 88%, to win, 92%. Not many teams shoot 84% from the line, much less 92%. The Heat only shot 65% or so. The thing that killed them was that Wade hit 84% and shot just as many FT's.

True, I won't aruge there.

But from my perspective, he is a much better owner than Stan Kronke.

where the hell was the so-called foul on Terry (against Wade)? he didn't even touch him and Wade flopped his *** out of bounds and got the call!

Ground_Attack
6/20/2006, 08:40 PM
another sorry call sends Wade to the line. He gets the MJ treatment with regard to fouls.

colleyvillesooner
6/20/2006, 08:43 PM
It's like the Refs said "WE haven't gotten him to the line yet? We'll fix that.

Wade landed akward and knocked himself down. Whistle didn't blow until he was falling down. If that's not "He fell down, so he must have been fouled" I don't know what is.

The second was just a textbook charge, leading with the shoulder. and jumping into Harris. Right in front of the ref. I'm not saying the game is rigged, I'm just agreeing that he's already getting the MJ treatment.

Heh, you should have heard the anguish in the ESPN radio guys' voices when they admitted that "foul" against Harris was BS. :D

I remember when everyone bitched about Jordan kicking out a leg whenever he'd elevate for a jumper and try and get cheap contact. Hell, every time Wade drives the hoop, he looks like someone should put their wallet in his mouth to keep him from biting his tongue off...

Dallas' shortcomings (yes, they have many) have nothing to do with Wade getting every call. Even you can see when they don't touch him and he gets the call.

Dallas better start dumping it to Dirk and letting him take it the rim, or get double teamed and kick out for an open jumper. This team will live and die by Dirk in the second half.

That and the refs hosing us. ;)

GottaHavePride
6/20/2006, 10:07 PM
Yeah, that thing succs.

Oh, other things that suck: Jason Howard's shooting, and Dampier and Diop. Seriously, last time Dallas actually stole the ball Dampier just stood around at the wrong end of the court. If he'd even made an effort to follow he might have had an offensive rebound and a put-back; instead the possession ended with a turnover. Then the times he's actually waiting under he basket he doesn't even try to go get the rebound.

Mark Cuban needs to shell out for a center that actually knows how to rebound and get a second-chance shot, because that's what's going to kill them today.

bri

Even if you ARE a little bitch.

hurricane'bone

The better team won the Series. You don't win 4 games in a row without proving that. Conrgats Doleo.

With that said, anyone with two eyes (not an NBA ref) saw Dwayne Wade at the end run into Dirk and slap him across the chest, and Dirk gets hit with the foul. Unreal. Just ****ing retire Wade's Jersey number everywhere, cause he's already to that level apparently.

The Mavs lost this game in the 4th Quarter. They entered the Bouns with 7:00 min to go. For the next 5 mins, they drove the whole twice, resulting in a Stack layup and a Dirk foul and 2 made FT's. That's it. 5 mins, two attempts. That's where the game was lost, IMHO.

Yup.

Miami was the better team.

And to add to what CVS said, I like how the refs allowed a blatant jersey grab on that final shot to go uncalled.

NBA Officiating sucks *** right now. And until David Stern is ousted as commissioner of this league or something is done about the refs, I'm not watching another NBA game.

Now that I think about that 13 point lead that we blew in Game 3, I've come to the conclusion that this is the second most crushing playoff loss for one of my teams right behind what happened to the 1986 Boston Red Sox.

And it's bookended by the that five run lead the Giants blew in Game 6 of the 2002 World Series.

Oh well.

Congrats to the Heat. It's not their fault the officiating sucked *** in this series. They were the more opportunistic team by far. And I can't take anything away from a team that beats my team four times in a row.

I dont buy the officiating sucks excuse, the reason the Heat got so many more free throws is cus they attacked the goal, they didnt just settle for jumpers like dirk and his boys

If I were using it as an excuse, I'd be overlooking all the missed free throws, shots, untimely turnovers, and especially that blown 13 point lead in Game 3 and pinning the blame directly on the guys in the striped shirts.

I think we got hosed in Game 5, but even then, we missed three FT's in OT that could have been the difference between a W and an L. But in Games 3, 4, and 6, you could easily point to things the Mavericks didn't do that contributed more heavily to the result in those games than anything the refs called or didn't call.

That all having been said, the refs gave Wade all sorts of help from the fourth quarter of Game 3 on in this series (as if he really needed any). I suppose Dirk got some calls courtesy of the star-treatment card. And maybe I'm being a blind homer, but it certainly looked to me like Wade was getting the greater benefit of calls.

And that call against Dirk where Wade used his off hand to shove Dirk away was the icing on the cake concerning my biggest bone of contention with the modern day NBA. I suppose from a business side, it makes sense to emphasize the stars of the league. And I understand they're going to get some calls that a Devin Harris or a Marquis Daniels won't get.

But they shouldn't get them to the extent that Wade got them in this series.

It leaves the same bitter taste in my mouth that I got when I saw MJ drain a Finals clinching shot after clearly shoving Bryon Russell away.

Collier11

I hated that feeling with jordan pushing off on russell, but I would say that the final call against dirk against wade shoulda been a no call...but the main reason dwade got better treatment than some dallas players including nowitzki is that he attacked while dirk settled. I will agree that there is no reason for a huge ft disparity for the home team, it is weak. But, you have to play through it as players and make things happen

Whoever stated that I am a bandwagon fan of the heat is true, thats fine. I dont care, im not a huge fan of the nba...I prefer cbb over nba anyday, but that doesnt mean I cant root for a given team just cus I dont have any legions with a particular team. As far as my cardinals go, ya they havent won a ws lately but atleast they are up there giving themselves a chance, making the playoffs rather frequently. And to say that I probably have a texas sweatshirt in my closet is something that NO OU fan should ever say to another, that is unacceptable and you need to take a long look in the mirror. One question: why do people congratulate someone who rooted for a team when that team wins? What part did they play in the outcome, other than yelling (or posting on the Innerweb) from home? Guess what? The team who you chose to root for won and 1) your cup of coffee still costs $3 at Starbucks; 2) no one still wants your autograph; 3) your company still expects you to get your work done; 4) the mortgage payment still must be made and 5) your odds of getting cancer have not changed since yesterday. But hey, if it makes you so happy that you want to run outside naked, go for it. But do me a favor and let me know so that I can go inside and close the blinds. :D

I think it has to do with your own inner feeling of good-sportsmanship.
Many fans take great pride in their team and will always wish them to win it all.
Opposing team's fans feel the same way.

When one loses, it is the good-sport winner who says "Good game, you fought the battle well, you lost, we won, it could easily have gone the other way"

Or in my case when I was a die hard Magic fan several years ago, never missed a game when all of them were televised here, and "MY" team made it to the NBA finals against the Houston Rockets, and then the Rockets pounded the best team in the East in four straight............
I doned the Rocket shirt my friend sent me, put my arm around the full sized cutout of Shaq holding a case of Pepsi that stood constantly in my TV room, and had my picture taken while "graciously" shooting the finger to the camera. All to pay off the bet I had made on the series.
:D It wasnt easy being a gracious loser.

My Houston friend being the good sport he was said..........
"Good game, you fought the battle well, you lost, we won, it could easily have gone the other way"

Agreed that Cuban's time of ownership is coorelated with the improvement of the Mavs, but I think that the guy who really deserves the credit is Donnie Nelson. Cuban deserves credit for making great hires and for committing to listening to his people and committing the money necessary to make the moves.

The hiring of Nelson as coach was a good move to get the team turned around. And just as good a move was bringing in Avery. I don't know if Cuban pushed Nelson aside or how his ouster came about, but how ever it came to pass, it was a great move.

Ft's attempted by Wade by Series

CHI - 6 games - 48. Avg. 8
NJ - 5 games - 53. Avg. 10.6
DET - 6 games - 52. Avg. 8.6
DAL - 6 games - 97. Avg. 16

You tell me which one is the outlier. Damn near twice as much.

Wade is an amazing player and is the main reason the Heat beat the Mavs. But he had some help :D

GrapevineSooner

To Nellie's credit, he admitted in March of 2005 that he for whaterver reason, the team seemed to respond better to Avery than they did to Nellie. He had the class and humility to realize what was best for the team instead of being bullheaded.

Once he was assured by Cuban that his contract extension would honored in full, he stepped aside and let Avery take the reins.

As for Cuban, I wish he would behave in the following manner (though like me wish for Stern to step down as commissioner, this is probably a pipe dream).

Keep any and all qualms with the officiating, suspensions, etc. COMPLETELY private. He did not come off good at all after the Jason Terry suspension was announced. He tried to justify Terry's actions by basically throwing a player who for many years was the heart and soul of this basketball team under the bus.

Cuban the marketer is great. But he pretty much has the same problem I do.

He knee-jerks too much and often times, let's the Maverick fan in him speak when he should just keep his trap shut.

In some way, I think that led to their unraveling in this series from that standpoint that Avery stepped out of character to rail against the Stackhouse suspension on Galloway and Company.

That's something you just didn't expect from a head coach who for the entire season preached mental toughness.

This guy took the Wade "Phantom foul" thing to a new, video level:

Beet, you like numbers:

Ft's attempted by Wade by Series

CHI - 6 games - 48. Avg. 8
NJ - 5 games - 53. Avg. 10.6
DET - 6 games - 52. Avg. 8.6
DAL - 6 games - 97. Avg. 16

You tell me which one is the outlier. Damn near twice as much.

Wade is an amazing player and is the main reason the Heat beat the Mavs. But he had some help :D

The non-cynic would say that Wade changed his game and became more agressive. And there might be some merit to that theory. However, it is hard to imagine him NOT being agressive in the previous three series.

I don't believe for a minute that Stern sits there and scripts the outcomes of games. I DO believe that he has a heavy, heavy hand in player movement. I don't think that there is any doubt the exerts influence (at least) in where certain players go, conference and/or team. The networks need marquee players in the big markets and in the eastern conference. That is why I truly believe that Kevin Garnett will move to the east in the near future and why Lebron may go to the Celtics or Knicks in the future. Carmello will also move to a marquee team I would guess.

I can't help but think that everyone, from the refs to the owners to the league officials, understands what is "best" for the league in terms of marketing and thus, revenue. I can't help but think that the refs are aware that the league is marketing certain players. They watch TV too.

The big losers are, if this is indeed happening, the fans. That is why fans need to just view it as the NBA does: entertainment. I don't think that the NBA views is as competition.

You can tell the NBA has stopped viewing it as competition when the commissioner is telling owners to stop being fans...

Dude, you came off like a dick cause you just showed up in this thread or the NBA PLayoff thread for the first time 15 mins after the Mavs lost the Finals. This thread is filled with Die hard Mavs fans and a few Heat fans. That's just a sorry move, IMHO. It's not like you were here the whole time expresing how you wished the Mavs would lose.

Remember what it was like after 55-19 when people just showed up on here to talk ****. Remember what it was like when people at your work talked **** about the game, even though they never talked College Football with you ever before that. That was what you comments were like for us. Sorry I called you a dick, heat of the moment and all.

I understand, but like I said I wasnt in here attacking any individual fans or or calling names like some did to me. I was just having a little fun, listen most of us are grown men in here and if you cant take a little razzing without calling names then Im sorry for that, but it was all in fun so if someone wants to get mad and call me a dick thats fine

When you make fun of someones team when they lose, it's kicking them when they are down. You don't have to attack individuals to **** people off. When someone tells you OU sucks, it ****es you off right? I mean, it's not a personal attack on you. But it is an attack on the team you invest in, monetarily and emotionally.

And also not to put any offense on SAS or Collier, you guys really haven't been here as long and you haven't been regulars on the SO for a long time so not many people here have a proper guage on your personalities. It's one of the reasons say a Dolemite could get away with saying the things you guys say because A) he would know how to say it and not seem dickish and B) we would say oh that is just silly Dolemite....

Thats a good point, but if you want to get back at me or I made someone angry cus they didnt realize I was joking then do like someone did earlier on here and make fun of my cardinals or something like that....no reason to make it personal is all im saying. Trust me, im a very tounge in cheek kinda guy so there is no reason to take me very seriously if I am going after another OU fan...now if you are a texass fan or puke state fan then I may have a diff. attitude ;)

Ok, I see what you are saying. 99% of the time on here you would get a witty response back. But not right after the Mavs just lost the NBA Finals. What you are failing to see is the timing.

Like I said, if someone told you OU sucked and they were glad they lost the National Championship 15 mins after it happened, would you just laugh it off and come back with a witty repsonse? I doubt it.

BS as it relates to me. I've got twice as many posts as you. If people don't know I joke around by now they are simple.

Some of the Dallas fans don't mind the sparring, but the ones that do get upset like it's personally directed at them. There were all kinds of farks and jabs by Mav fans when they were up in the series against the Spurs and the tune changed when the series started to even out.

It's the stupidest thing in the world that we are having to justify VERY MILD smack in a setting of mostly friendly people.

Eat more bran cereal people.
