That's what i was thinking. Actually, I enjoy some of their stuff. I even like WTTJ, its just annoying when a tune imprints on your brain all day.

What's REALLY bad is when you hear an unfortunate little sliver of a really bad top 40 song and THAT gets stuck in your head all day! Or the dreaded children's song, jeeze I've had my fair share of Blues Clues and Dora songs stuck in the head. Sometimes a randon Nick Jr./Noggin song, dear lord!!

I agree with yermom and octavian, that album saved the late eighties. It freaking rocked. Only a handful of ppl I knew "got it" when it first released, it took a while to become so huge.

Seeing them live knocked some of the aura off, I mean they were *horrible* live. :(

The Wiggles can be bad too, but there is nothing in the world worse than getting the theme from The Doodlebops stuck in your head for a day. I think that's the song they play nonstop in Hell.

Seeing them live knocked some of the aura off, I mean they were *horrible* live. :(GNR was very hit-or-miss live. I saw them 4 times. twice they were disappointing, once they were good, and once they were absolutely inf*ckingcredible.

<-- once camped outside a box office in teh winter time for 72 hours to get GNR tix, and then showed up 24 hrs before the show to be the first one in the door since the floor was general admission. those were the days.

It definitely makes the short list, but if no bad songs or filler is your criteria (whether you're a fan of the artist or not) you'd also have to consider

I would put Back in Black right there with APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION (thanks Boarder). The others are top notch, but a notch below in terms of every single song being great. As original Van Halen's #1 fan, I would put 1984 behind both Women and Children First and Fair Warning.

I guess we would also have to put Michael Jackson's Thriller at or near the top as well. As great as it was, just think where it would rank if MJ would have disappeared after that album.

Appetite was released in '87 but it probably took a good year or so for GNR to get insanely popular

remember Jim Carrey lip syncing WTTG in the last Dirty Harry movie? :D

i guess the band kinda matured in the early 90's and really took over MTV though

yeah Appetite was released in 87, but they were merely an opening act on the tours they were on. It wasn't until mid 88 when Sweet Child Of Mine was released as a single, at that point it took off. They weren't supremely huge until Use Your Illusion (1 & 2) came out which was in 91. I don't remember Lies (88) being all that popular when it came out.

But for pure, uncut rock, GNR's AFD was the bomb.

Use your illusion I & II were pretty solid as well.

there are only a couple of George Michael songs i really like, Father Figure and Freedom 90 (or was that just the video?) and maybe Faith

i'm not a big Prince fan, but some of his early stuff was pretty amazing

Well I was referring to Lies in comparison with AFD and UYI 1&2. It was dwarfed by all '3' albums...although I'm happier with my combination UYI CD that has the better tracks off of both of them without the fluff.

Hootie and the Blowfish might be the most underrated band of the past fifteen years. I didn't appreciate them until I had a roomate who every time a girl made him mad, would lock himself in his room with a case of beer and destroy **** while blaring cracked rear view. Then I came to appreciate the genius of Hootie and the Blowfish.

Ironically they are still angry about being overplayed because of how it derailed their careers.

Black Hole Sun always paled in comparison to Spoonman, which never got enough radio play.

Slippery When Wet was almost a no skip album when it came out too.

Not this pop stuff y'all are raving about ;) but Metallica's first several albums were no-track-skipper-neededers.if you were a metallica fan prior to the late 80's, you were probably too high to have skipped a track even if you'd wanted to. :D (that's not meant to be a slight, as it applies directly to moi)

Good call on the tribute album by Ozzy though, damn near forgot about that one.

To come full-circle, I distinctly remember buying this cassette the same day I bought Appetite for Destruction.

One of the most underrated bands of the last 15-20 years IMO.

I think I went thru 3 or 4 tapes of GnR's AFD. Still crank it when it comes on.
