I've only been to the Bangor airport. I'm fascinated at the prospect of visiting northern ME in the summertime. My best friend is from there and he says no one has a/c in their home and you still need cover on the beds at night.

Who's been and whadidyathink?

Have fun, but if it were me, I'd jaunt on up to Nova Scotia - you know, to see the total eclipse of the sun.

I bet it's awesome there.

My Wife has always wanted to visit Vermont in the fall too.

Haven't been up Nawth but have spent alot of time in Southern Maine. My MIL still owns the house she grew up in around Sebago Lake and the wife and I go up every other summer for 7-10 days.

It is true that a building with central air is pretty rare. It can get hot up there in the summer, but usually only last for a few days.

If you are an outdoorsman, it is a fine place to go. I haven't been up to see the fall foliage, but will at some point.

The Lands End HQs is up in Freeport ME, I believe, that's not very North though. Worth going if you haven't been.

Every part of Maine is gorgeous to me, almost like a Norman Rockwell painting with moving parts.....and lobster is dirt cheap!

You're thinking on L.L. Bean.

Freeport used to be great shopping with all of the outlet stores. Now, not so much. We usually go to North Conway N.H. Great prices and no sales tax.

For all of the weather geeks, a trip here should include a visit to the Mt. Washington observatory.

No doubt. There was this thing with a clown that I heard about.

I went to Baxter State Park three Labor Day weekends in a row. It is so incredibly beautiful up there, words can't explain. And by that time of year, it is a good idea to pack a jacket if you plan to be outside at night.
