I think I may have developed swimmer's ear/an ear canal problem. My left ear feels like it is swollen shut or something. It doesn't hurt but the sensation of my ear being full is annoying, plus it sounds really weird to me when I talk. Is there anything I can do about it.

Can you valsalva and open that left ear? If not, you should see your doc.

Pinch off your nose, close your glottis and blow firmly. You should hear your eardrums pop. If that left one doesn't, you might have an ear infection.

I have been swimming, and that pretty much describes how my head feels.

if it's bacteria......if not, occlusion of the ear with wax (happened to me last fall when i had the flu for about 3 weeks--glamourous, i know) can be treated with this stuff called debrox you can get at the grocery store. it softens the wax, ear drops....and in extreme cases you might have to have the ear "irrigated"--which means some nurse chick squirts warm water and a wee touch of hydrogen peroxide into yer ear hole until a chuck of wax comes out....in combination with debrox to soften up the wax. it's wicked cool.

and dont' use q-tips inside the ear, it just packs the wax in.

Go in to the doctor. It sounds serious enough that over-the-counter treatments won't be strong enough to clear it up at this point. I have seen kids with wicks (strips of cotton used as a drain) in their ears because they were so swollen.
There are some preventative things that you will need to do from now on when you swim, especially this summer. The article linked by KC has some of them.

Swimmer's ear can be very painful. Don't wait until it gets worse.

Nope. Just ears that don't drain properly or failure to get all of the water out.
Bacteria and fungi love dark, moist places to grow.

I tried the Debrox stuff and it seems to have started to solve my problem. For some reason I have always had more earwax than the normal person and I think that's what the issue was.

King Crimson is right...

Cheap and effective, tilt your head to one side, put a capful of Hydrogen Peroxide in it, let sit for a few minutes, and it should start to clear up.

Also, Hydrogen Peroxide is the bomb for killing skunk odor when your dog runs into one...at two in the morning...on the night you are leaving your house and moving to your new house...right after you've spent the entire last two days emptying and cleaning your old house so you can return it to the landlord in good condition so you can get your full refund back...

Sorry. Got off on a tangent. :D

I got the same problem and ear lavage is where it's at. See the doc right away if need be. Trust me, it's the shizzle.

in the future, get one of these blue syringey squirter and with warm water and a little hydorgen peroxide (like a buck a bottle) you can "lavage" all on yer own. debrox is pretty pricey.

or just take a bowl and the blue syringey thing into the shower and clean yer ears in there....head tilted to each side.
