Thank you to all Warriors, past and present, who make us free.

Godspeed and God bless each of the fallen, and those who loved them.

NEVER FORGET.

To my sons, my heroes - I love you. Stay safe and well. Come home soon, Jon.

GOD BLESS AND KEEP AMERICA.

Freedom Isn't Free

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of taps one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Every year our family volunteers here at the cemetery in Mcalester, putting flags on the graves of all the veterans buried in a few sections....we do it early on saturday morning before it gets scorching hot....it has become a nice family tradition that only takes a couple of hours...

This year the 2 year old daughter was able to carry around the small flags and put them in the ground after I would make the hole to put them in....Kind of had this moment that I ll never forget...She put the flag over her great grandfather's grave that served in WW2 that died right before she was born...the way the breeze was blowing, it was just one of those moments that will always be remembered...

When I was on leave from Iraq the first time, I went to the Homecoming Game against Mizzou. They had the flag draped across the field. What chapped me was during the National Anthem, most of the people behind our bench were just BSing and ignoring it. Sadly, even at our games, there are people who do that.

God Bless all who serve our country. Pray for those in harm's way. And thanks to all the veterans for hearing the call of duty to this great country. Despite all of our differences and disagreements, this is still the best country on the planet, and it would never have been possible without the dedication of those who have fought so that all of us could enjoy the feedoms we have.
