about the newly discovered memo(?) that Kissenger wrote in 1972 to the Chinese govt that "the US would not oppose a communist take over of S Vietnam if they would wait until the US troups pulled out? Accepting the North Vietnamese government as a stable government of the region. We have no interest in defeating or destroying Hanoi."

Im sure I have some of the quote wrong, but what I heard stunned the crap out of me. Over 47K American men lost their lives in that war and I imagine their families as well as those of us my age that were involved in that war for many years are pretty shocked and dissappointed right now.

1988 or it may have been 1989. I was lucky enough to be on hand at Hickam AFB when the first remains were returned to the United States from Vietnam in over 16 years. With full honor guard it was one of the most sobering experiences I was ever a part of. And that's even in comparison to making a visit to 'The Wall' when it was still relatively new.
