Can anyone tell me if there is a way to download and/or save emails from my Outlook? What about contacts?

Can I save an entire folder of emails somehow?

TIA!

I'm pretty sure you can export your Contacts but I never had any luck carrying over emails. It has to be doable but I never figured it out.

My IT guy said it could be done but he doesn't work here anymore.

Try File/Import and Export.......

When you have one open, click File->Save As. At the bottom of the pop up, change the "Save as Type" to "Message Format" if you want to open them using Outlook on another computer.

If you are taking them to another computer without Outlook, kust leave the "Save as Type" as HTML, and put them all in one folder.

Is it regular Outlook or is it Outlook Express?

Search "Exporting Contacts" in the Help menu for a way to do that.

Can you send me a new email, Chick? You're old one is getting a little stale...

That works, but I have a folder that has over 100 emails in it, is there a way to save the entire folder or all of them at one time?

It is regular Outlook.

dont know about outlook, but thunderbird has a folder that will exist in:

C:\documents and settings\<user>\application data\thunderbird\profiles\<profile name>\mail\

which will contain files and folders corresponding to your mailbox structure. for each mailbox folder, there will be one index file and one text readable file that contains all of your emails.

concievably, Outlook should have something similar, however, knowing microsoft and its love of proprietary formats, that may or may not be true.

Regular Outlook creates a .pst file for all your emails in your inbox. If you have a personal folders under your inbox it should copy them too. For copying other folders I'm not so sure about. You need to find the location of that and if you copy the whole file you should be able to copy it onto another pc to use on there. For contacts it creates a different file, I think it's mailbox.pab At least that's how my system is configured here at work.

I think there is a psychic somewhere on 23rd near OCU.

They can probably help you with your outlook.

make a new Personal Folders file (.pst), make sure you don't set it to deliver your mail there

then once you have it in the folder list, drag and drop the folder in there

you can then copy that to a new computer and open it with Outlook

Lord have mercy......you would think something would have been developed to ease the migration of email data from an old PC to a new one.

I believe the most relevant portions of that KBase article would be the following sections:

How to export .pst file data (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=287070#3)
How to import .pst file data into Outlook (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=287070#4)
How to transfer Outlook data from one computer to another computer (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=287070#5)

All of your Outlook stuff is conveniently saved in one file (inconveniently if it ever gets corrupted!) called a personal file. Search for a *.pst file in your Documents and Settings folder (Win 2000 or XP). Everything is in that file--your inbox, your contacts, your calendar, your "Stanley <3" folder.

I was going to chime in here with some help, but I think y'all have the situation under control. Curious though, no one has asked what emails Chick is wanting to save. They're probably love letters from Stanley. Either that or one's with pron attachements.

What makes you think those are mutually exclusive?
