If a guy wanted to make the odometer quit keeping track of miles driven would the speedo still work? Is it hard to install an aftermarket speedo? Is it obvious if someone has done this to a vehicle? Where should a person look to see if this has been done to a vehicle?

Just asking a question, don't draw conclusions about the author and his motives as it may or may not involve the author trying to break the law.

my odometer used to stop working randomly in my old Jetta (bought the stupid thing because it had low miles :mad:)

the speedo always worked though

Install a tachometer.Drive off rotations per minute,not miles per hour.Hope this helps.

yeah, and my math ability gets pretty crappy after about 8 beers so I'd never know how fast I was going.

install tach, check rpm against mph, write it down, then disconnect speedo.

That said, a friend somehow found a gadget you put on your speedometer cable that cuts the rotations in 1/2. His speedometer always read 1/2 of his actual speed, so he knew how fast he was going, but it only put 1/2 the miles driven on the car. Make sure it's not on the car when/if you sell it. Make damn sure you don't sell that car to me! ;)
