I heard that the color of the twist tie on your loaf of bread is determined by the day of the week it was produced.

Any truth to this?

People claim it's true, but I haven't ever heard it from an industry insider.

Might just be an old wives tale to make them feel better about their purchases.

Hell yeah, Betsy, this one is F-R-E-S-H!

True.

BUt:

In other words, since you're not going to encounter a loaf that's more than a few days old anyway, there's no earthly reason to mail off the astonishing news to the entire population of your online address book that there's a secret code worked into bread tags. Even without knowing the code, your friends and family are never going to get a stale loaf.

Is the color code quoted in the example applicable to every breadmaker's product? No, because there are different manufacturers out there, and each of them uses its own system -- there's no industry-wide standard. The code explained in the e-mail might or might not be the right one for the brand you're after so, caveat emptor: Placing blind reliance on the BGRWY code could well result in your consistently fetching home the older bread instead of the fresher stuff. Also, the schedule quoted above (fresh bread delivered every day except Wednesday and Sunday) doesn't hold true in every area. Different stores can be on different rotations, and even within the same store some brands will be coming in five times a week, while others arrive seven days a week.

Whole Grain wheat bread is healthier than white. I dunno about non-whole grain wheat bread.

And who cares about the twist tie color when there is a date printed on the loaf?

Gee, they'll now use twist ties to spread the word on terrorist threats.

Hot dog buns must be white. If I see you holding a wheat hot dog bun, I will urinate on your tires.

Nope, they are pre-dated for me. They do something similar on other products, namely almost every packaged food item known to man. Maybe you've heard of said products?

Coincidentally, the best hot dog buns are yellow (potato buns).

Now, I have seen dates on the wrappers and stuff, just not actually on the loafs.

And I thought this thread was going to be about how they PURPOSELY put on twist ties to the right sometimes and sometimes to the left. You go to UNTWIST a tie and it's twisted on the wrong way!!! The next time, it's different. Now THAT is what I'd call a conspiracy.

White bread fo babachew.

Wheat for sammiches and toast.
(cept rye or pump with pastrami and reubens)

Don't matter for burgers, but homeade with sesame can't be beat.

For dogs, a Fenway Frank bun is the best, followed by egg, then potato.

The end.
