I stopped watching wrestling for a few weeks then turned it on last week to find out that Triple H has a new entrance theme. His old one RAWKED, whether you loved or hated him. If I ever host a sports talk show, I'm using that as my theme. Also Motorhead is doing his new theme as well.

I don't know but the ECW match is just a good a time to die as any. Terry Funk may be the first planned in ring death. That would really put Edge over, he killed the Funk. I am going to be ****ed if Dreamer jobs to Edge and Foley on his OWN damm show. Cena is going to get the worst reception in the history of wrestling, The crowd may beat him for the title. Of course the way the WWE is gong....Cena would just FU the entire stadium and somehow miraculously overcome 3,000 people to retain. He will probably FU RVD off the balconies of the Hammerstein Ballroom and then they will call Cena the Hardcore Champ.

Gandalf_The_Grey
5/25/2006, 02:32 PM
I like the Kane who doesn't care, I used to love when Kane would come out and wouldn't care at all about losing as long as he beat the ever living **** out of some fool. That is why I like Benoit too, both of them just seem to like to hurt people.

Gandalf_The_Grey

The WWE pretty much refuses to let Cena get beat, so I don't like him since he is probably not even Top 15 skill wise on Raw. You could probably put Cena in an elimination match against The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, Undertaker, and Kane and he would find a way to FU all of them and win the way the WWE is going!

How long to you think they will run the DX angle, and to what degree? I am sure Shawn Michaels won't do the majority of the stuff they did back in the day, since he is a Christian now. I like the reuniting of DX, even if it is for a short run.

I don't know. They're running an injury angle with HBK right now to give him time to get some minor 'scoping on his knee, but he should be back in time for Vengance, which is where they're planning to reunite DX. I have no idea who else will be in it, but as long as there's someone wearing the black and green...I WILL BE WATCHING.

I thought the same thing in regards to Shawn and his beliefs, but I think he's reached a place where he's comfortable with some of the "tamer" DX stuff. I don't think we'll see them asking chicks in the crowd to show their tits or anything, and he's already said that he won't do the crotch chop, but he can just do the "less offensive" X chop.

he was bigtime into his Christianity then also...however he's created a stage persona that has revelled in being as irreverent as all get up. It's also more likely that Shawn Michaels the man can differentiate himself from HBK the 'stage personality'. :)

that being said...they run the angle maybe until they give Trips the belt again for the 200th time.

Yeah but look at The Roadie and Billy Gunn....Even Triple H for that matter......they pretty much were midcarders without much character before DX
I still remember the Triple H that first broke into the WWE, the so-called Greenwich "blue-blood." Remember when he feuded with the Godwinns and got covered in hog slop in the process? The Triple H of today would totally throttle the Triple H of 10 years ago if they met.

Remember when Triple H was slated to win the King of the Ring one year, but then management decided to "de-push" him after the infamous MSG Curtain Call?

The guy they chose to win KotR instead of Hunter? Stone Cold Steve Austin, who beat Jake Roberts in the finals and proceeded to invent "Austin 3:16" in the post-match interview. :D

I remember when SCSA broke into the WWF as "The Ringmaster."
Ever notice that the greatest stars the WWF has built over the past 10 years were essentially nobodies going in? SCSA, the Rock, Triple H, heck even the Undertaker wasn't really a big name when he first stepped foot in the WWF. Mick Foley had a solid run at ECW prior to the WWF but nobody really thought he would succeed in the big-time either. And the so-called stars that the WWF was counting on really didn't live up to the hype. Mark Henry, Big Show and Brock Lesnar, among others (I know Lesnar won the heavyweight title but still his career didn't match the massive hype he had coming into the federation).

Yep, pretty much.

Of all the former WCW talent to never catch on AT ALL in the "E", DDP was my favorite. When they brought him in as a creepy heel, stalking 'Taker's skeezy wife, I knew he was in trouble.

Of the guys who DID get decent runs after coming in during the "Invasion", Booker T and Jericho's burials in the midcard sting the most.

Scott Steiner. I sat next to him late one night about a month ago on the train in the ATL airport, just me and him. I knew he was a wrestler but I couldn't figure it out. I got home and went searching through the websites and found out I was sitting next to one of the 4 horsemen. If I had said something, he might have put me in the Steiner Recliner, so I'm glad I kept my mouth shut.

I'll admit, I marked for Billy Goldberg when he first started his jobber-crushing push. And when he finally beat Hogan for the strap in the Atlanta Dome, I was a happy smark. But then they f*cked up and tried to turn him heel..."just because". He never recovered after that, and that atrocious WWE run he had didn't help.

Still, I hear he's a great guy when he's not being GOLDBERG.

Hah...we booed the hell out of him....let me rephrase that....EVERYONE not employed by WCW in The Palace at Auburn Hills booed the hell out of him. Of course the Nitro audience never got that..because they played the canned Atlanta roaring crowd pop to hide the boos. Let's switch gears for a moment and talk old school WWF TV.
I started following the WWF in the late 1980s by watching Prime Time Wrestling on Monday nights on USA, with Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. I also remember when Heenan wanted to break away and be his own host, so they built another room in the studio for Heenan to have his own "show," which aired on about the final half-hour of Prime Time Wrestling. Needless to say, the Bobby Heenan Show wasn't a great success, and shortly thereafter he was reunited with Gorilla.
The two were also the announce team for the Wrestling Challenge syndicated TV show.
Of course, the main TV show during that era had to be "Superstars of Wrestling," also syndicated, with Mr. McMahon and Jesse Ventura the announce team. Later on, the Body left and Rowdy Roddy Piper stepped into the color role. I think Macho Man Savage also joined McMahon on "Superstars;" I know he teamed with McMahon during the early days of "RAW."

But with the angle that the WWE takes these days with the sex, etc., I don't think Monsoon and Ventura would be as good if they were able to do the commontating.

What the hell are they doing to Kurt Angle, I remember when he would rather suplex you than look at you. They are pussifying Benoit and Angle, and I can't tolerate that. Hopefully Batista hurries and Orton stops grabbing the wrong ***, and Ken Kennedy beats the everlasting **** out of Booker T and the "All Hail the King" going for like 2 whole segments. And why the hell is Burchill jobbing, he has to be the most over jobber in the history of wrestling. Also can we get an Undertaker/Scotty Too Hotty tagteam, maybe if Taker tombstones the guy, just maybe then Scotty can get his finisher off.

Seeing as how the SD roster currently consists of almost 100% jobbers, I don't think they'll run out of "developmental talent" to throw at The Great John Studd. :D

I think Angle is gonna be a whole new level of badass in EC-Dub. I wasn't too sold on the new ECW 'cause I thought it was just gonna be the same old, same old...but moving Angle over there has me interested.

I'd like to see Orton in the reformed DX, but that would mean moving him off of SD, and they can't lose anymore main eventers.

Burchill's jobbing so they can take him off TV with an injury angle and bring him back sans pirate gimmick, I think.

Don't you love all those "Did you knows?" that basically are patting themselves on the back till their hand falls off?

To which, I annoyingly counter: Did you know most shows take the summer off? Did you know the NFL has an offseason? Did you know nobody watches any show on Syfy except WWE stuff? Did you know you used that same 'Did you know' several times already? Yes, I already know that John Cena created a coffee cup and kids make a Cena wish more often than other wish! :P

I watch WWE regularly, but they really didn't wow me with their 900th show. Maybe they're saving their good stuff for episode 1,000?

Mississippi Sooner

I pretty much trailed off watching most wrestling after about 2003 or so, but still catch bits and pieces because my step-son is still a fanatic. A couple of weeks ago, TNA did a tribute show for ECW (carefully never mentioning the name ECW of course, lest they bring down the wrath of McMahon).

I was pleasantly surprised. They brought back most all of the old TNA guys that they could, and gave a shout out to all the ones that have passed on and the ones who couldn't make it. They even talked about how they wished Joey Styles could have been there because, really, his over the top announcing was one of the things that made ECW extreme.

Even though the matches were tame compared to the old ECW style, it was still a decent show. After all, the insane south Philly crowd was an important part of the anarchy of ECW, and no one is going to allow Sabu to half kill himself for the sake of his art anymore. Anyone remember Sabu's barbed wire fence match with Terry Funk where Sabu gashed his arm so deep that the ring was drenched in blood, and Terry had to spend several minutes killing time while Sabu frantically taped his arm to try to stop the bleeding? That was good stuff.

Anyway, it did cause my step-son to say he wished he could have seen some of the old ECW stuff, so I dug through my old collection of VHS tapes and, lo and behold, I still had a treasure trove of old ECW shows and pay per views including their very first, Barley Legal.

We spent the better part of a Sunday afternoon watching those, and he was enthralled by how those shows were and still are like nothing else pro wrestling has ever done. If anything ever came close, other than Japan's FMW, it was the old early 1980s World Class stuff out of Dallas.

NP got the original "Nexus" shirt and I got Orton's giant mask shirt (because they didn't have any others in my size, other than Cena's Tebow orange shirt) when WWE came to Tulsa last year. The Nexus logo faded quickly on NP's shirt and I only wore that Orton shirt once... the day I got it... and it probably already making someone else very happy to find an authentic and practically new WWE shirt at Salvation Army :)

I still have Ken Kennedy's last WWE shirt, because he's from Green Bay, Wisconsin (and they marked all his stuff down when RKO got him fired for allegedly dropping him on his bad shoulder hehe). I will probably never buy another WWE shirt just because the screen printing really seems to suck.

Best of WWE in recent history:

1- Any Money in the Bank matches. They promote new talent (like OU's own Jack Swagger) and always have killer spots in them.

2- Retiring Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels. Hey, it wasn't WWE's fault that Ric Flair then went over to TNA to keep getting money.

3- Finishing the Bret Hart screwjob issues. They took it too far by continuing to bring Hart back and not just stopping at Wrestlemania, but it was touching to see HBK and Hart hug and then they kept it going by having Vince attack him and say he deserved to get screwed, hehe.

4- Nexus. Another one that they took too far. What a concept - a killer faction of nothing but WWE n00bs who destroyed the ring and everything around it!

5- Convincing Rock to come back. He is the sole reason my DVR still records this show.

And now, the worst:

1- Anything involving John Cena. I remember swearing off PPV's because he won every d@mn main event for like a year. There are so many things he did that just made me not want to watch, but here's s short list: Spraypainting "JBL is poopy" on a limo, warming up his thuganomics with a few "yo yo yo" ing, getting fired but not going away, being owned by Nexus but still working around those rules somehow... argggggggggg.

2- No more Jim Ross. I know this might be our favorite Sooner announcer's decision, but I miss him and seeing his OU pin and OU championship ring on national television accompanied by Boomer Sooner music.

3- Everything ECW. I know it was inevitable with RVD getting suspended that the show would falter soon after, but... arrrrgggg, the whole "new breed" crap, letting Paul Heyman go... MAKING VINCE ECW CHAMPION?!?!?! How do you celebrate your 100th show?! Give Colin Delaney a contract, only to turn him heel and future endeavor him shortly after. Booooo!!!!!

4- NXT competitions. I have a marvelous idea! Let's have them juggle in the middle of the ring after running backstage to chug soda! And your promo topic is... CEREAL. Gaaaaaag.

5- The downfall of mid-major divisions. Is there even an intercontinental or cruiserweight title anymore? Who even is the tag team, diva or women's champ right now? Don't know, and WWE gives me no reason to care :(

NP and I spent part of the evening on Top Gear and then fast forwarded through the DVR recording of Raw. Here's a few things that stick out.

1- John Cena is a tool. This was such a step back from his first promo, it's almost like they're turning him at this point... which was much delayed, it's about d@mn time. So much hate in the crowd anyway.

2- I actually missed JBL. Please, keep telling Texans how much they suck. Please. The only thing that would have made that part better would have been for Jack Swagger to come out in OU gear and "Boomer Sooner" the crowd to death :D

3- The Divas used to matter. Is it because TV is PG? Is it because all they do is get two-minute matches and no promo/storyline time? <sigh> i don't feel empowered.

4- Taker has music now! I like it, but only if it starts with lightning/thunder, not the words part. That's what I don't like about RKO's music - it doesn't just hit you... it just kind of starts.

5- The n00bs are getting buried. I missed the old guys that are coming back, but the new guys were starting to grow on me.

I don't most of the time. But it's rare that you get to see trolls in real life, and I love watching them work. :)

Wrestler: Well I'm back here in City A where I've done more winning than all your pro teams combined!

Crowd: Booo!

Wrestler: I know, it hurts to have such pathetic sports teams to cheer for, but then again, wouldn't you perform badly too if you had to live here?

Crowd: BOOO!

Wrestler: I mean the taxes are high, the food sucks, and the worst part of it all is that Rival City B is over 200 miles away!

Crowd: BOOOOOO!!!!

I've known a few wrestlers in my life, and to a man they all said that being a heel was twice as much fun as being a babyface. This was particularly true back before the business was exposed as it is now, and the best heels ran the risk of being attacked by fans going to or leaving the ring. I guess I can understand the adrenaline rush that it must provide.

I was a sick wrestling fan from about late 1982 til 1986 or so. Watched WCW, MidSouth, World Class, and occasionally Southwest (USA network).

Quit watching about 86 when I "smartened" up after being in the martial arts a few years.

Watched a little WCW in the late 90s when Goldberg was hot.

I just skim WWE. Went to a show in Tulsa about a year ago (for free) but don't generally watch WWE.

I do try to keep up with TNA but mostly just because of the old guys like Flair, Sting, Steiner, etc.

I hated Kamala with a purple passion back in the Mid South days. Dude seemed unbeatable, kinda like The Undertaker when he first hit the scene.

Yep, me too. My favorite wrestler back then was Mr Wrestling II (I always liked the masked guys) and Kamala hammered him in a few matches.

I use to love watching the old MidSouth stuff on KTVT, along with the NWA/WCCW. I really enjoy when JR is on KREF and he starts telling out wrestling stories.

Here (http://www.midsouthwrestling.com/akabarpage1.html) is a good read about Skandor Akbar.

I've got a pretty allsome shoot interview dvd with kamala...Its weird listening to him talk...

Something you may not know...He was afraid he had some legitimate heat going with Andre the Giant, so he wrestled with a gun in a pocket sown onto his trunks in case Andre tried to seriously hurt him

Wow, that's one I haven't heard. Everybody from Dusty Rhodes to Pat Patterson to you name it said Andre really was super strong and could have crushed anybody he ever went up against. Not sure how Kamala would have known Andre was gonna hurt him in time to do anything about it, but i believe the story.

www.kayfabememories.com message board is the best one I have found for talking old school wrestling.

Some former wrestlers, managers, refs have posted their from time to time. Bob Roop used to get on and tell some cool stuff. In the WorldClass forum, one of their old refs (James Beard) still posts there.

JJ Dillon had a forum there as well.

Yeah...He said they had a match where kamala messed up the spot and tried to pin Andre..Andre got pissed and threw Kamala up in the air so high he landed standing up on his feet..Andre went to get up and Kamala started punching him(legit) because he was afraid of Andre getting up and pounding him...He said they never had a problem after that but he carried the gun just in case

Anyone go to the World Class Championship Wrestling event in Ada back in the 80's? They had it at the old rodeo arena before they built the current agriplex.

It was outdoors and was loaded with stars of the day. One Man Gang, JYD, the Von Erichs . . . I can't remember the rest that were there.

Heh, I remember Ravishing Rick Rude calling us a "bunch of dumb Oklahoma sharecroppers" at the first show I ever attended.

Nowadays around here, all they have to do is get one of the Latin guys on the mic and let him speak Spanish, and the crowd flips out. "USA! USA! USA!"

Yeah...Raw this week did not feature many matches at all. A lot of air time was up divided between promotions for the different Wrestlemania matches. Rock/Cena/Miz took up a lot of time, Undertaker/HHH promo took up a lot of time, Stone Cold's bit took up a whole lot of time. Pretty much going to be the same thing for the next couple of weeks up until the big night.

Thought Stone Cold looked pretty good in his return this week. You could tell he was really looking forward to it. He couldn't even hide the smile on his face when he came out and then again when he exited. Still think he has the best entrance music.

If you haven't heard (I just did, because I never watch TNA), google "Jeff Hardy" and look at the most recent news. Or, just go to Youtube and watch the Jeff Hardy/Sting match at their Sunday PPV.
(if you want to know, scroll down)

Spoiler: Jeff Hardy has had past problems with drug use and on Sunday, he was scheduled to be facing Sting for the TNA's main title belt in the main event. Of a $35 pay per view. Guess what happens.
(if you want to know more, scroll further)

Spoiler: Jeff Hardy is apparently getting scolded backstage when they find him hiding in a corner, obviously in no condition to compete as his intro music is flooding the arena (without him entering of course, because he's getting chewed out). When he finally appears, he stumbles down to the arena, vaguely acknowledges the crowd, then sits in the ring's corner.
(if you want to know the worst part, read the final spoiler below)

Spoiler: And then, the kicker -- The main event match starts with Jeff Hardy teasing who in the crowd he is going to toss his t-shirt to... and then he drops it at ringside, then gets rolled up seconds later to end the match. You spent more time reading this post than PPV buyers watching their main event title match.

Anyone order Rasslemania last night? NP and I were out, otherwise might have considered it. It looked like a good show from reviews and photos I've seen online... but I heard the price was a crazy-high $60. Holy shizzle. I remember when the first Wrestlemania I ordered 10 years ago was $30.

Watched it and it was pretty meh for all the pre-hype they did with getting the Rock and Stone Cold involved in some capacity. Was also 4 hours long, so that might have affected the extra $$$ to order.

The whole night was just a little off. The match order was weird. A lot of the matches were a little sloppy and just weren't executed very well.

Undertaker/HHH match wasn't worth all the hype. For a no holds barred/no DQ match it wasn't nearly as violent as I thought it would have been. I don't know if that has anything to do with the change in rating? Triple H looked like he still had a lot of rust to knock off having not wrestled in a while. The match had it's moments where you thought Triple H might win it, but Undertaker won on his triangle choke submission.

Best part of the whole night might have been the Stage created for the event. It really was awesome.

WWE has blamed both the sink in PPV buy rates and the increased PPV costs to communal viewing... so next time you feel like ordering, we should just get a big watch party together for it :D

WWE has done many things that just caused me to not really want to get PPVs anymore.. when I used to get them, it seemed Cena was winning every main event for about a year (2007-08ish I think). And of course, the cost just continued to edge up as buy rates went down.

Hasn't this always been the case....you always get a big group together to watch the PPVs and split the cost. I think the real problem is more and more people streaming it online than the communal viewing.

everthing else was really predictable and not much to talk about...i think it just showed that in a show where guys cant spend 90 of the show on the mic(like on raw), this generation of guys just can't work....they have to have a mic in their hands to tell the story while the old guys could put together an epic match without the mic.

First of all, the Rock with his tongue waggling, saying it was going to be the best Wrestlemania of all-time?...and it wasn't even close.

HHH/Taker along with Edge/Del Rio were the best matches in my opinion.

I purchased it last night as well. The wife was out of town and I figured WTH? Best matches of the night were HHH/Taker and Edge/Del Rio. I too though that the show was meh, and everything else was very predictable.

The Rock ans Stone Cold added very little to the show with the exception of some old school nostalgia.

Honestly, I can't even remember the rest of the card and I was stone cold sober.

Shock and awe: Edge announced that he was being forced to retire by doctors last night. He was the current heavyweight champ and already had a ladder match with Alberto Del Rio scheduled at the next PPV, "Extreme Rules."

I absolutely love Edge's current entrance music, but will also miss his Canadian-ness and turning the move every wrestler does into his finishing move (the spear, yes).

His favorite storylines for me were:
- Making fun of the home crowd with Christian, either via the five-second photo op (sometimes with Angle) or just taunting in general
- Shaving Kurt Angle bald
- Telling Montreal that that it "isn't Canada, ribbit ribbit"
- While injured, giving excuses in each city (specific to cities) why they would not be privileged enough to see him wrestle. In Arizona, he said it was because they were one of the last ones to adopt MLK Day as a holiday and he was disapproved as a "color blind Canadian"
- The real life Lita/Hardy drama, leading to the Rated R Superstar nickname

It would have been a great ladder match I'm sure, but like Edge said, catching this ailment now means he won't end up in a wheelchair (or worse)

If you're curious about how it happened, there's actually a documentary on Netflix now... I think it's called "the rise and fall of wcw" available on instaview, or whatever it's called where you can watch it on Xbox/PS3/PC

It is kind of WWE leaning, because they produced it, but there's some fun interviews that they got before the guys bolted for TNA (eric bishoff, hulk, ric flair, etc)
