I have an 18" old-school monitor at work that is starting to do the screen refresh thing (degauss?) that those old type monitors do when they're about to die. I need to speed up the process so that I can get a sweet new widesceen flatpanel. Any suggestions? It can't look like I broke it on purpose.

Best idea. Hmmm. Could pour some H2O on it before you leave for the day.

I have a crappy sprint thing and the battery only lasts for an hour of talking. it went out and shut off in the middle of my conversation with GHP and now i'm irritated.

I don't know how to break a monitor accidentally on purpose, sorry

Cat puke will eat right thru a circuit board, and monitors have those ventilation grills on top. I'd suggest leaving a bowl of tainted cat food on top of your monitor each evening. I'm sure your company won't suspect a thing.

PG, see if Mom has phones left on the bottom of her pool.....

Andy, unplug the monitor and pour a bit of water in the vents on the back of the monitor. Make sure no one is around and have a towel to clean up the water when it drains out.

Is your company listed on the Stock Exchange.
Please let me know before Monday morning, I may want to adjust my portfolio.

Set the refresh rate in display settings way high, higher than is recommended for your monitor. (you may need to tell windows to display all refresh rates, not just the recommended rates)

A lot of older monitors will actully burn up pretty quick if you do that. Some can even catch fire. Then say hello to your new widescreen monitor! YWIA

No kidding. About a year ago we bought Jr a flat screen monitor hoping just to get her through high school without buying a whole new computer. Last week I saw a low-end Dell computer with the same monitor for the same price that we paid for just the monitor.

Just pee on it. That should help. Try not to get any on the carpet.

Just turn it off and on A LOT.

I'm sure that can't be too good for it. :D

Drill holes in it and pour borax in them. If that doesnt work, there is always room in my pool for an extra. ;)
