 Damn I knew these things would be popular...but DAMN

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Ford hasn't yet announced the price of the 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500. But, whatever it is, buyers have already indicated a willingness to pay at least $20,000 more.
The Shelby Cobra GT500 is a version of the popular Ford Mustang equipped with a 500-horsepower supercharged V-8 engine. The original Shelby GT500s, made in the late 1960s by race driver turned sports car maker Carroll Shelby, are now highly coveted collectibles that can sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. (Far fewer of those cars were built than the approximately 8,000 per year a Ford spokesman says will be made of the new version.)
On eBayMotors.com, one Texas dealership is advertising a 2007 Shelby GT500 with a "Buy it now" price of $99,999. So far, no-one's paid that much, but bids in that auction were already over $65,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
The first 2007 Shelby GT500s are expected to arrive in dealerships at the end of May with most dealerships getting just one or two to sell.

I remember when the new T-Bird and GT came out. Due to the limited supply some dealers put an "additional dealer markup" sticker on it...basically jacking up the price thousands of dollars because they could.

They did that with the 07 Camry's when they came out about 3 months ago. Every Toyota dealer had ONE, and they were marked up $3K over sticker. Now they are selling for sticker. I'm gonna hold out just a little longer though.

Just to be clear. After a year of mostly positive experience, in which I had decided to become an Elite Sponsor, I started the Hollis Board, I had a 46,000 spek rating based on real spek not betting over two season and 1500 posts, in the last four weeks I can see this board is a place I don't want to be or patronize. There are two other boards which I believe have at least equivalent football knowledge without the abusive environment. I am taking my business elsewhere.

Let me guess, the "Service Engine Light Soon" comes on around 30,000 and Ford wants $200 to run diagnostics and $300 to replace the dpfe sensor. Suckers.

Mustangs and Camaros were both available with 6 bangers in the heyday.

velly velly interesting (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12804535/)

"The highest-ranking automaker in the study was Toyota, followed by BMW, Mercedes and Honda."

"only Toyota and Porsche are showing positive momentum for growth"

“GM has a number of brands and they are not clearly differentiated in consumers’ minds, as opposed to companies like Toyota or Nissan who support maybe three brands that are clearly differentiated,” she said. “Consumers understand the difference between a Scion, a Lexus and a Toyota. But a company like GM with so many brands has to spread its marketing dollars thinly, and these days there isn’t that much money to go around, so it’s hard for them to keep up with companies like Toyota.”

etc etc etc

The new cobra is going to be a pig, weighing in at over 3900 lbs. It should have 450 rwhp, but for $50k sticker + 20k dealer markup...you can almost get a new z06 for that much.

An 03/04 Cobra is the way to go, collectibility & a ton of bang for the buck. For anyone wanting to see some terminator cobras check out this vid (yes the intro is cheesy):

I think the point was that GM runs too many brands that compete against each other. Like for Toyota, they don't have to worry about any of the Toyota-branded vehicles taking business away from Lexus because they're marketed to different income classes. But for GM, if you want a middle-of-the-road car you've got Pontiac, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Saturn all in the mix taking business from each other. They'd do better if they wrapped all the different brands into one and marketed the hell out of it. Likewise SAAB, Caddy, and Hummer are all basically marketed to the same bunch of people and you get SAAB vs. the CTS and Hummer vs. the Escalade.
