Dropping the ethanol tariff woud probably help U.S. ethanol producers because it would drive demand, increase availability, and force innovation with production techniques and stocks. Once again, Congressmen(this time who happen to be Republican) are being short-sighted and narrow minded in an attempt to remain popular.

Surely you aren't suggesting that politicans are pandering to early primary and swing state voters. Say it ain't so! ;-)

All I know it is more reason to have Iowa's statehood yanked. They can't drive and they elect idiots.

So I should invest in corn futures?

If you are compentent at commodity trading, sure. Corn prices are going to rise due to decreased acreage, and increased consumption.

Don't pigs eat corn?

Wonder if we could use methane as a fuel source if we cut the corn out of their diet and feed them broccoli?

Well, while I disagree with this obvious attempt to pander I'm going to have to rush to the general defense of Rep. King who I recently had the opportunity to meet. The guy is as solid a conservative as you're likely to find in the US House these days, and I'm really hoping he'll run for the Senate against Harkin.

The fact that King is supporting an ethanol tarriff is only somewhat disturbing. I'm actually not a free trader to the extent that at times tarriffs can be benefital and helpful, but I don't know enough about ethanol tarriffs or subsidies to know if this one of those cases or not.

The ethanol tariff isn't benifical. An artifical ethanol industry built on distorted economics will not do anyone any good. If he isn't pandering in this case, he is either not doing his homework or he is stupid.

Actually the wheat for Pasta is grown in the Dakota's, so pasta prices won't be affected.
