According to newsok.com they make 100k a year. I wouldn't mind making that much in Oklahoma City.

Anyone know an Air Traffic Controller?

My cousin is an ATC and is going to retire in the next few years. He's 45.

There is a fairly lengthy training course there at FAA in OKC, I don't know how hard it is to get in.

Keep in mind, you may not have a whole lot of say in terms of where you go after graduation. It's not like you go through the training and tell them where you will and will not work, and some of the jobs are in BFE.

Can you handle EXTREME STRESS and make split second decisions?

There's a reason they make 100k a year........

Can you handle it if YOU'RE the reason 2 planes tried to land on the same runway at the same time?

Thats a bummer, I figured getting on at Will Rodgers would be a bit less stressfull than getting on and working at lets sat Atlanta airport.

Did he like it?

I think he does. Like any job, it has it's advantages and disadvantages. He has pretty much always had to work the big holidays since that's when the heaviest traffic occurs, but overall he has seemed to like his job.

He has been in Abuquerque for several years and likes it a lot there.

I had a buddy back in college take a few courses in Tulsa when they had the problem with the drunks on the job.
If you want to make a lot of money why not become a lawyer or better yet a cut-throat businessman.

Anyone know an Air Traffic Controller? My dad was an air traffic controller. First he was in the Air Force. Then he worked for the F.A.A. (Federal Aviation Administration). He went on to be an instructor for Air Traffic Controllers and then he was the head honcho at the FAA Will Rogers Aeronautical Center. Thats where the school is for air traffic controllers. Now he is loaded and retired in Florida with a young wife. ;)

I do know that taking the civil service exam is the first step.

You want me to call him for you?

I have heard in certain circles that the ATC School in the Marine Corps has one of the highest wash out rates of any school.

That may be because of the young age of most of these kids too...(18 or 19).

I wouldn't take that job... I fly from places like ATL & DFW, and there is no WAY I would want that stress. Plus, the hours are pretty bad when you first start out.

I dont know why you can't post from work??? I can.
Besides if you can't "multi-task" then ATC is not in your job abilities.

I ride motorcycles with one of the guys who trains ATC's at the FAA in OKC. He says if you really learn the training, you'll be A-OK. There is a plug of older ATC's who are getting ready to retire (all the baby boomer ATC's I guess.) According to him it is a great time to get into that field. In the next few years, there will be opening oll over the USA.
