Or could this really happen?

From The NRA:

Dear Fellow American,

This 4th of July, while you and your family celebrate the 230th Anniversary of the founding of our great nation, there's one party you won't be invited to...

...And that's the party that Kofi Annan is throwing at United Nations headquarters in New York -- using your tax dollars -- for nearly fifty dictatorships, six terrorist states, governments that endorse execution based on religious faith, and a multitude of other nations from around the globe.

You see, this party isn't to honor your freedoms -- but to conspire to take them away.

Over our July 4th holiday, on American soil, they are preparing to enact a legally-binding treaty that would give the U.N. unchallengeable power to ban civilian ownership of ALL firearms.

That means your rifles, your shotguns and your handguns. AND YOUR FREEDOM!

To learn what you can do to stop the U.N.'s global gun ban treaty-before it destroys our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms visit www.stopungunban.org.

Just as a handful of patriots fired the "shot heard 'round the world" at Concord Bridge, it's up to you and me and every patriot who cherishes our Bill of Rights to tell the world today that our nation will not be bullied by the U.N.

Thank you for acting today.

My personal opinion is that this collection of tin-pot dictators and theives can't even conquer Somalia, so I'm not too worried about them knocking on doors here in the States and trying to get a bunch of well-fed and violent Americans to surrender their gun collection. I like the NRA, but I'm more worried about our own government and their actions against the 2nd amendment than I am a bunch of incompetent socialists nancies. Rebecca Peters will find that Americans have a slightly different attitude than the Commonwealth nations.

If it walks like a hoax, and quacks like a hoax, I bet it is a hoax.

Don't think its a hoax...but unless they're rehashing it five years later...it looks old.

EDIT: From the link Jerk posted above, doesn't look old either.

Looks legit, although you wonder how far along they are in bringing about the treaty. Of course, the U.S. would have to agree to it before it was binding here. The U.S. is a sovereign nation.

I like how the letter acts like the UN has real power and that the United States abides by treaties.

I don't care what the UN says, the constitution overrules it as far as I'm concerned.

San Franciso is well on its way to doing this, having banned handguns and the military already.

There is a way for an international organization like this to constitutionally ban gun ownership.

If these United States were to ratify a treaty that banned gun ownership then the treaty ratification clause would supercede the 2nd Amendment. There has been a VERY small movement over the years to pass a constitutional amendment that would in someway ban the Senate from ratifing any treaty that wasn't consistent with existing constitutional provisions.

Sounds like a plea for more contributions. I've been an NRA member for many years but some of these contribution tactics get old.....

Try to imagine how little I care about this BS. You cannot possibly imagine how little I care.

That would be convenient for them to come to my door. It would save me the hassle of having to hunt them down. The only question is: do I bury them or do I let the buzzards pick them clean?

This conservative organization I belong to issues political endorsements after candidates submit a questionare and then go through an interview process.

Well several years ago there was this one state rep. candidate who was asked about gun control by a member, so in a follow up question he asked if this state. rep would have a problem if he bought an anti-aircraft gun and put it next door to this state rep's house.

The guy's answer was classic. He said, "My first question would be, can you be safe with it?" My second question would be, "can I shoot it sometime?"

He was endorsed.

Great James Garner line from "TANK" - One of the best things about owning a Sherman tank is: it's very hard to shoot yourself while your cleaning it.
