I'm interviewing for a supervisor position at my Fortune 500 company in about 5 minutes. It is an internal interview, and I think I have a pretty good shot at getting it. This is what I have been shooting for my whole career, so wish me luck.

I think it would help if you included at least three SOisms during the interview.

Oh, and good luck.

When they ask if you spend time on the internet while at work, deny it!

Good luck to you. Keep us posted.

I hope you did well, but why do you feel the need to mention Fortune 500?

make sure you tell them that you've read the book The Peter Principle and you're living proof that it is true.

2nd day in a row I have noticed the SO slipping: internal interview, pretty good shot at getting it.

For shame SO. For shame.

I'm back. Mixed results. Interview went well, but there were some questions that have caused me to rethink certain aspects of my job.

Sooneron-I mentioned Fortune 500 just so that you would know they have all of the normal internal hiring practices stuff. Smaller companies it isn't as much of an issue.

The truly weird part of it is at the end of it, I don't know if I have a shot or not. Probably not given my mixed feelings. There are some other things at work here as well though.

There still may be some good that comes out of this, but right now I'm feeling very low.

Dude don't sweat it...I've had thousands of interviews and almost always had a bad feeling, of course I didn't get the jobs either.

Just kidding, keep your head up and it will all work out in the end.

Absolutely. Things have been better later on. I'll know something by the end of the week. Even if it doesn't go my way, there are still other potential opportunities here.

Or your opinion of this thread?

Skysooner
5/11/2006, 08:52 AM
No, they just announced it. They told the unlucky candidates about 30 minutes ahead of time. The usual line of bs....more opportunities in the future, etc. They did it so fast that we are all sure that it was predetermined. Don't get me wrong. I am happy for the guy who got it. He was as deserving as the rest of us, but there were some things said during the interview process that weren't kosher.

Well the situation is finally rectified. Thought I was going to have to move to Tulsa, but the company stepped up, and I have a new position. Not 100% what I wanted but a good step up.

I'll probably be up there around 6/26 or so. Maybe earlier if they kick me out the door sooner. I have lots of projects that I have my hand in that need to be briefed out to the new responsible parties. It is a good move. We are looking in BA, Bixby and Jenks, and I'll be working downtown.

I'd find a nice established home in Mid-town Tulsa with Jenks being a 2nd option, Bixby 3rd...I'd move to Owasso before Broken Arrow.

But that's just me...

That would be ideal, but I have children and Tulsa School District isn't a place I would like them to go. One is special needs, so the critical element for us is a good special ed program. We are in contact with an autistic support group that will help us determine the better special ed programs in town. I know that one of our friends who is a principal in Tulsa said that Owasso's education program was having issues. As for now, I would prefer Jenks, Bixby and BA in that order, but the wife is for BA, Bixby and Jenks just due to what she has heard so far.

Actually things worked out okay in the end. I found out that they were not really thinking about management for me immediately at my current company, so I found an engineering manager position in Tulsa for a slightly smaller company. It will be a very good move for me, and in my career, it has always seemed that things have happened for a reason.
