Officers approached the driver, who “declared to them he was a Congressman and was late to a vote. The House had adjourned nearly three hours before this incident. It was Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy from Rhode Island.”

That's pretty humerous, right there.

Cops love stories...

Though I will point out that had Congress actually been in session at the time the cops could not have detained him.

Well one would hope that if congress were in session, he would have been, you know, actually working and not drinking and driving.

"When it became apparent who it was, instead of processing a normal DWI, the watch commander had the Patrol units clear the scene. The commander allowed other building officials drive Kennedy home."

It is good to see that we are all equal in the eyes of the law.

One would hope a lot of things about our elected officials when Congress is in session unfortunately none of them are true.

Oh no, he wasn't drunk when filling this form out! Maybe he just had a stroke or something?

Well, I wonder if one can vote on the business of the people from the Mayo Clinic?

I would think he would have to step down to seek treatment, wouldn't he? Maybe it doesn't take long or something.

"I have been fighting this chronic disease since a young man," Kennedy said, adding that he will return to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He said he wanted to continue working for his constituents in Rhode Island.http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyid=2006-05-05T192846Z_01_N05287612_RTRUKOC_0_US-KENNEDY.xml&src=rss&rpc=22

Glad he finally owned up to the problem and will seek some help though.

The officers involved in the accident were instructed by an official "above the rank of patrolman" to take Kennedy home and no sobriety tests were conducted at the scene, Cannon said.

Proving once again that if you have money or power, it doesn't matter what you look like to get women to go out with you.
