Anyone who votes for Ben Affleck will be baned. Permanently.

you should be baned for not picking Ford.

Ford. Without a doubt. Even though I read all of the Jack Ryan series with the mental image of Alec Baldwin in the role, Ford was by far better suited for it.

SicEmBaylor

I'd forgotten about Baldwin. Baldwin was pretty good too.

Screw you, THFRO is now and will always be the best Clancy film evar made. Therefore Mr. Schwetty Balls wins by default.

but just imagine how much better it would have been with Han Solo.

That's terrible logic. If it was winning by default, it'd be because of Sean Connery. :D

You've never heard of the Red October? It's the sub that sufaced and damn near went airborne!

Ford was the best although I thought Baldwin was pretty good. Didn't he "negotiate" his was out of the role? I mean, I seem to remember him making more demands and wanting a pay raise for the follow-up movies and they turned to Ford to play the role.

Harrison Ford is the man, but Baldwin did a good job as well.

OMFG, who voted for Affleck? :stunned:

Harrison had the perfect mix of gravitas and humility for Jack Ryan.

Suppossedly Baldwin was doing some work on Broadway when casting for Patriot Games began. It was another role that Harrison Ford was brilliant in, despite 'falling' into the role.

Thanks. I guess I never knew the true story.

The next one is supposed to be Without Remorse.

I strictly read non-fiction, but the Clancy series was a notable exception. That last book though was a bit weak...

Trivia: Kevin Costner was originally up for the role of Jack Ryan.

Are they calling it that cause they don't care how bad Affleck is? :D

I liked No Way Out, he would have been good.

Even Matt Damon would make a better younger Jack Ryan than Ben Affleck.

This one focuses on the John Clark character, thankfully.

only because the bottom fell out of Red Rabbit (which was suppossed to be the next one). The thought of Affleck as Ryan, and Baldwin as Ed Foley still mentally scars me.

ahh but grasshappa, will John Clark still be played by one Willem DaFoe?

I liked the guy who played Clark in Sum of all Fears better than William Dafoe.

Liev Schreiber?

Next you'll insist that Parker Posey play mainstream big budget film starring roles :P

GDC

I would guess Liev Schrieber before Dafoe.

Better than James Bond; Jack Ryan is an American by God!

Does anybody but me have a hard time believing that Liev Schrieber is some kind of ultimate badass? If you don't, just see Kate and Leopold some time. (Shut up, I was on a plane.) Dafoe wasn't quite right, either. A younger Robert Patrick or the dude that played the head bad guy in Die Hard 2 would rock as John Clark.

Affleck was a terrible choice for that role. He was about as believable a CIA operative as Denise Richards was a nuclear scientist in that Bond flick.

I am a heyyuge fan of Harrison Ford, but he's just getting too old for the action roles. And I hear he's doing another Indy Jones movie. I hope it doesn't suck.

HF was too old for the part by the time Patriot Games was made. Jack Ryan is supposed to be a younger guy. Baldwin, as much as his politics make me throw up in my mouth, did a fantabulous job in that part. He had just the right amount of intelligent wimpy-ness. HF played the part as too much of a tough guy.

After The Sum of all Fears, I hope they don't make another one.

Changing the terrorists from Arabs and East German radicals to Neo-Nazis was stupid.

They also ruined the climax by not making Ryan square off against the President on the order to nuke Iran. I can see why they changed due to the age of the actor (Ryan was like 50 and director of the CIA or something similiar in the book), but it still sucked.
