A German ex police superintendent is only able to speak English after a stroke he suffered last week.
A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that brings oxygen and nutrients to the brain bursts or is clogged by a blood clot or some other mass
70-year-old Johannes Richter natively speaks German, but after the stroke he suffered last week, he can't speak German anymore. The only language he does remember is English.

Johanneses' daughter, Eva Richter, said: "The stroke has affected his speech centre and he can no longer pronounce words in German so the only language he now speaks is English."

Dietmar Schneider, the neurologist treating Richter at the University Hospital in Leipzig, said: "When control over the speech centre is disturbed then the patient expresses him or herself in a foreign language. This is especially noticeable in people who have learned a number of languages."
