"Spurned by Notre Dame, Texas and many others, UM is finalizing a home-and-home football series with Kansas State."

I'll give K-State 1000:1 odds on being competitive in that game. Kudos to the purple nurples for scheduling somebody in D-I, though.

Texas will play anybody anywhere in non-conference as long as the anybody isn't a perrenial top 40 team and the anywhere is in Austin.

To their credit they did goto the 'Shoe last year.

...and they know it, which is why they aren't scheduling anybody of note after they play tosu in Austin this year.

How did Mack Brown allow that game to get scheduled? I'm sure he thought when his AD said OSU that he meant Oberlin state.

I'm thinking he just got that confused look on his face and wondered why they have to play lOSUr twice in the same season.:mack:

ND turned down the offer because the "Catholics vs. Convicts" is already being used for ND. vs. USC.

Damn. Dodged a nasty bullet there.

Frankly, I don't see much merit in a UM game every year. They are a program on the decline. Better to find a solid vigorous programs like UCLA and Arkanistan ;)

I hope K-State embarrasses them by 3 TD's.

KState did step up and beat USC in 2002 - it was USC's last non-conf reg. season loss.

their problem is their creampuffs are the cream of the puffs.

Hell, I can't wait for ooc to get interesting for us. Our ooc last year was florida international, marshall and north texas. The year before that was Western Kentucky, Fresno State and UL Lafayette. We lost 1 of those and should have lost another one. At least playing great programs ooc will get us on tv and get us more exposure. If we lose, we were supposed to. If we keep it close, hell, call it a moral victory. If we win, awesome. Its really win/win and I can't wait for it.

Although they more than earned their cupcake only reputation back in the '90's, KSU's been playing some fairly decent teams OOC in the 2000's:

'01 & '02- home/home w/ USC

'03- Cal, Marshall

'04- Fresno St.

'05- Marshall

Not bataan death march stuff by any means, but definitely a step in the right direction compared to some of their '90's slates. They're also playing both Marshall & Louisville in the upcoming season.

Yea because USC was a real powerhouse when they scheduled them in 2000 or before, Cal was cracking the top50 right around then and two Marshall games in 3 years? Wow how did they not have more injuries to all those Goliath's.

PDXsooner

marshall is a good middle team. you have to step up and play top 15 teams in order for it to be considered a "tough OOC game"

1999- Temple, UTEP, Utah St.

1998- Indiana St. Northern Illinois, Louisiana Monroe

1997- Northern Ill., Ohio, BGSU

1996- Indiana St., Cincinnati, Rice

1995- Temple, Cincinnati, Akron, NIU

Like I said in my previous post, there have obviously been tougher OOC slates, but it IS a step up from their previous years, albeit not a huge one.
