I like the looks of the new roof but I think it makes the house seem smaller.

I can't see that it looks "taller."
Maybe you feel lighter without all that extra cash weighing you down and things just aren't back in perspective yet.

The new roof looks better........I really can't explain it, it just looks more "together" and updated. Of course, it's updated, ya know, since it's like new and everything......gah, never mind.

The NEW ROOF LOOKS BETTER!!

The new roof contrasts nicely with the entrance - making it stand out more. The old roof just blends in with the entrance.

That darker color will probably cost you an extra $100 or so a month in electricty! Enjoy! :D

Pretty good investment of $1500. I'd say you multiplied your investment, at minimum, 6 times.

Looks nice.

no, the mexicans just put them both on the same side.. I need to get a bench for the front and put those white things back on the back patio.
I sold the kids to pay for the roof.

We went with ridge vents when we replaced our roof. It's still hotter than **** when I go up in the attic though.

Ridge vents would provide better ventilation to the attic, keeping it cooler with full soffit vents and improving the life of the roof. Everyone here in Houston has ridge vents when they put a new roof on. Turbines don't do much, ridge vents are the way to go. But hey, you already have the roof. Someting to think about for the next time...

P.S. I need a new roof and decking. Wish we would get a hail storm here...

have you told that story here yet? If so, guess I missed it.

oumartin

it was an ongoing mystery until last night newbomb.
a month ago we got the hail storm. well, about a week later I notice the laminate flooring close to the water heater, ac/heating unit closet starting to buckle. I felt under the edge and it felt damp but there was no sign of water anywhere. I called the flooring guy and he felt under it and said it was just damp from temp changes and theat the flooring problem is cuz they cut the wood to close to the baseboards and didnt' allow the flooring to expand.

well, a week ago I opened that closet and there was a small amount of water standing on the floor again. Well, it had rained the night before and I thought maybe the roof had leaked a bit. also I thought maybe the a/c condensation line was plugged. well, it wasn't the condensation line cuz it drained fine. anyhow I cleaned it up and thought okay its the roof.

well, we got a new roof on and it hasnt' rained and I open it last night and there is more water standing in that closet. low and behold my wife was doing laundry at that time. it is so cramped in that closet that you cannot see on the other side of the heating unit. but i managed to get a flashlight and look and when the washing machine drains it drains fast enuff that it overflows. needless to say I have a plumber coming at 1pm today..

the kicker of it all is that the laminate flooing that is down in the dining room area is discontinued and finding enuff to repair the floor has been hard luck.

Newbomb Turk
5/3/2006, 11:58 AM
FYI - you need to leave 1/4 inch gap when installing laminate flooring. ;)

Seriously, that's a bummer - especially the flooring being ruined. The washing machine draining thing may not be that big of a deal. We had a similar problem a couple months ago. Luckily, the drain overflow for our washer is in a closet in the garage. Anyway, the plumber just had to snake the drain line. I was pi$$ed because I snaked the drain, but my snake was only 25 feet long. :texan: He had to go further than that to find the clog.

oumartin
5/3/2006, 12:01 PM
yeah, i have a small 25' snake and it doesn't do the trick.. I am more worried about roots getting into the plumbing line. thats my concern. hard to imagine tree roots in n.w. oklahoma but we do have trees up here.
I hope the problem is only what yours was.
I have no idea on how to install flooring. I am home improvement retarded.
