Have any of you dingalings popped the hood when you were in a hurry to back out and had to stop everything to go close the hood again?

No, because the brake release on my car is in the middle console and the hood release is down on the fire wall. :D

I don't know much about cars. I'll drive a car ten miles with the emergency break on. I know that doesn't say much for me, but it doesn't say much for the emergency break either.

It's not the emergency break. It's the emergency make your car smell funny lever.

On cars with automatic transmissions, the parking brake is rarely used. This can cause a couple of problems. The biggest problem is that the brake cables tend to get corroded and eventually seize up causing the parking brake to become inoperative. By using the parking brake from time to time, the cables stay clean and functional. Another problem comes from the fact that the self adjusting mechanism on certain brake systems uses the parking brake actuation to adjust the brakes. If the parking brake is never used, then the brakes never get adjusted.

If you park on hills it helps to use the parking break so you don't have to torque the shifter out of park. Leads to a habit.

Fortunately, my shifter is tough to anger.

i have a hand brake in the center console, the button on the end releases it

it's handy there for those times when you want to deactivate the center diff and get the rear end to slide ;)

I have a Dakota and my wife has a Montero. When I borrow hers it's a habit to reach down and release my break........which happens to be her hood release.

I rarely use hers, so I forget a lot.

I have a suggestion:

SELL ONE OF YOUR CARS AND QUIT COMPLAINING!

sell hers so you dont have to go through the inconvenience of learing a new system.
do a more diligent check out of your new vehicle.
Oh, and list all other complaints on a sheet of paper and stick it ......
in your shirt pocket when you go new car shopping.

sanantoniosooner
5/2/2006, 02:12 PM
We owned hers first........so the Dakota changed the playing field.

As to the OTHER part of your post.........if we eliminate complaining from this site, it will cease to exist.
