from 1907, Teddy Roosevelt at Ellis Island. They said it's actually true.

Teddy allegedly said, among other things:

In short, Teddy did not approve of "hyphen" Americans. Nor do I. That's the reason I refuse to use the terms African-American, German-American, etc. ad nauseum. It leads to balkanization, promotes "us vs. them" crap, is therefore devisive and flippin' stupid.
