I bet spring break destination choices will be profoundly affected for many years to come by this Messican decision.

I also expect there will be tour packages available.

Just think, "Mexico, the Amsterdam of the Western Hemisphere." Party on.

I think your right, they could tax it and Americans would make them rich..
Drug lords would become legit, carve out their territories. Farmers would have large cash crops they don’t have hide. The Mexican government would have to build super highways at every border crossing. Hell, toll booths to get in.

That’s the ticket…..

If it's legal in Mexico, maybe Dupont and Syngenta will finally get around to breeding some super pot, and that will keep me from ever having to deal with folk who are high because they are home drooling on theselves watching Scooby Doo.

once they legalize drugs they can pack it up and distribute it across the boarder since no one is going to guard it.

Decriminalizing small quantities of hippie lettuce is one thing. Decriminalizing "hard drugs" is quite insane.

Maybe this is Fox's way of helping the US to strengthen our borders..or just sabotaging the US?Probably the latter.

It actually makes good sense economically speaking for Mexico to do this. Vegas was built and untold billions have been raked in on the proposition that people are willing to travel great distances to enjoy forbidden pleasures legally. Even to the Nevada desert.

I expect the Indian casino's are cutting into Vegas' take some these days, but gaming has gone corporate now so their shareholders are still benefiting from a "Bally" Mohawk Gaming Center or a "Steve Wynn's" Apache Casino.

Downside for Mexico? Mainly that it won't bring much in the way of decent paying jobs. Just a big boost to Mexican tourism and a big increase in service-related occupations. If they still insist on paying Carmelita a pittance to make beds in the hotels, she'll still more likely split to the US.

Therefore, I think Fox would do well to insist companies which come in to develop this new drug-fueled hospitality industry pay much more than scale for the same jobs elsewhere in Mexico.

After all, the American turistas won't mind. They'll be high.;)

When you walk across the bridge from El Paso to Juarez, you have to pay 35 cents. Then when you walk back you have to pay another 35 cents. They have that one covered already.

If they do legalize, it will cut into the income of Police officers in Mexico, especially those in the border towns. Not sure how much popular support there would be for this. I buy drugs in Mexico every 4 to 6 months as it is. Of course, my tastes have changed. Now I am buying blood pressure meds trying to AVOID the buzzing in my head.

So now you just don't have to pay off the cop when you get popped?

Don't think the Mexican cops won't add their emergency stash in with yours to ensure you exceed the legal limit and get more bribe money:

Officer: Si, your stash and this stash in my car will put you away for a long time.....unless you give me your stash and $500 cash.

American: Uh, ok. Whew, that was close.

Later, the Officers are getting blasted on hydroponics while getting $2 tricks in the alley.

So, no, I don't see this doing a lot of good to anyone.

You haven't lived until you've been extorted by a Mexican cop.

I don't see how this hurts the Mexican police officers. They get drugs, cash, and 2 dollar tricks. I don't see where they lose.

Their wives get the cash, they have to share the drugs with their fellow officers and the tricks require weekly Rid treatments.

The ones in Juarez are cheap. It usually only took a $10 or $20 bill slipped into their ticket book to make them happy. It does freak you out though to get pulled over and hassled by a van-load of machine gun toting federales.

Never had a run-in with the federales, but the Juarez cops were cheap when I was there too (early '90s). Too many nights though it seemed that the drunkest GI was also the "brokest". Great bonding to take turns getting arrested and bailing each other out.

Mexican jails suck, as does Mexican tear gas.
