has right to work done anything positive for our state. I remember when it came in they said if it doesn't work they would abolish it.And the movie industry was going to go crazy over this place. It must be seedy porn movies after all the legit business moves out.

Blame the tax structure. If I were looking to open a business it would not be in okla because it is not a business friendly state. The eastern oklahomans have done that to you by their vote.

They continued to vote for liberal democrats time after time and those representatives outnumbered the reps from OKC and Tulsa. So no matter what you wanted in the "big city" it was never gonna happen due to the eastern Okla good ole boy network. It kept the state years behind and it continues to be that way today.

So Oklahoma biffed re-districting to represent population shifts?

Company may close tire plant

By Paul Monies
The Oklahoman

In another blow to the state’s manufacturing sector, Bridgestone/Firestone warned employees Friday it may have to close its Dayton Tire plant in Oklahoma City, at the cost of almost 1,600 jobs.
The company said it has been losing money in Oklahoma City and doubts the plant can become globally competitive as consumers demand larger-sized tires. Employees here make 13-, 14-, 15- and 16-inch tires for the replacement market, but the market is shifting to larger sizes.

Bridgestone/Firestone will now take the next six months to sit down with local and international officials with the United Steelworkers union to see if the plant can be saved. If no agreement can be reached, the plant will close by Dec. 31.

Steve Brooks, vice president of manufacturing operations for Bridgestone/Firestone, said competition from low-cost countries has made it hard for domestic tire factories to turn a profit.

“We have a difficult challenge in Oklahoma City,” Brooks said. “While competition is intense in all product segments, it is especially so at the low-end of the market, where demand is also shrinking. These are the types of tires the Oklahoma City plant is equipped to make.

“Even with substantial new capital investment, market forces make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the Oklahoma City plant to be globally competitive.”

Officials at Local 998 of the Steelworkers union could not immediately be reached for comment.

Michelin is doing great in Ardmore. Three shifts going like gangbusters.

I suspect this has more to do with Firestone's blemished reputation and Ford's refusal to use them as a supplier on new vehicles than OK's right-to-work status.

They may be Democrats, but they sure as hell aren't liberal. A liberal wouldn't have a chance in Little Dixie.

Seems kind of odd since every time I drive by the plant the parking lot's got a ton of cars and big rigs coming in or going out.
