Minds out of the gutters...:D

We are thinking of replacing the carpet in our family room and dining room (currently used as a play room). We have two kids, 3 and 6 years old. Any idea what would be the best replacement?

the high end laminates look better than the cheap ones. (obvious man)

Spend the extra $1.00 - $2.00psf and get some engineered wood (Bruce, etc). Installing is not hard. The glue was the only part I complained about.

A miniature Schnauzer and a Lab mix worked for us.

You'd be better waving a red flag in front of a bull than saying that around here.

Carpet on top of wood with a layer of laminate in between is the way to go. :texan:

I'm facing a similar situation, but carpet is RIGHT OUT and stone & ceramic are in the mix.

Let me 'splain. I just got a bunch of not-cheap carpet about 2 or 3 years ago, and between me, my dog, and 2 soccer-playing daughters, it looks like Death & Hell on a saltine.

Rip out the carpet then stain and seal the concrete. You can just hose the nasties out the front door then.

We're going with wood soon. Carpet is like a used Klenex. You never get all of the muck out of it.

I'd get a couple in their mid 20's. By then, they've probably already done all the stuff that causes parents to have gray hairs and they have good jobs and can support you if need be.

we have some wood laminate that looks great. one problem. we didnt' put it in and if you don't leave some space next to the door jams to flex you run the risk of it rising up with humidity and temp variations.. the stuff thats in our house is no longer made and we are having hell trying to find some to make the necessary repairs.

Just make sure the carpet matches the drapes. :D

I tiled most of my new house, carpeted the bedrooms.

Maybe we should go with tile instead. I like carpet in the bedrooms, but living room carpet can handle only so many Sunny D spills.

Now our problem is finding someone who will come out to where we live.

One thing about Oklahoma that we weren't prepared for when house shopping was the prelefalence of tile.

What is it about Okies that makes them think they need to tile everything? I can see it in the kitchen and maybe entryway...

I lika the wood, though. Seems hard to do with the subfloor stuff. There are some high quality plastic floors that look like wood and hold up well. My uncle installed some of that stuff in a wal-mart a few years ago and he says it still looks to be in excellent condition.

I don't know what your house looks like (nor your taste), but since you're in AZ, I would think that this type of tile would do the most at increasing the value of your home.

Slap a rug in the middle of the living room/dining room and some runners in the halls and you're set!

You do understand that what was once Persia is now Iran. Go with the Navajo.
