I do. I was just edging out the pack, doing 70 in a 60 and bam, I came around a curve and he was already geting back into his car. He was on the left hand shoulder and had his laser gun pointed back at traffic.

The guy was nice and thanked me for being courteous. I think I said about 6 words.

Isn't that ticket almost $300? I got stopped for the first time in 15 years on I-35 (7 miles over the limit), and the amount was ridiculous.

According to this 30 page fine schedule that I just printed out it's $149.00

If anyone gets a municipal ticket in FW give me a holler and I can tell you what the cost is.

You ever drive the DFW metro area?

The pack was doing about 68 and I was just squeaking by them.

Appear in court on the scheduled date, and offer to go to driving school if they'll reduce the fine to court costs. If your driving record is clean, they'll probably go for it.

I just checked, it knocks the total down from $149 to $103.

Texas used to have a law that excused one ticket every three years for going to Defensive Driving class. I don't know if it's still the same. It didn't reduce the fine by much, but it would eliminate the points from your PERMANENT RECORD as far as your insurance company was concerned. Keeping your insurance rates stable might make it worth it.

can you keep it off your record?

i've never gotten pulled over for 10 over and never in DFW period...

The key is to not edge out of the pack. You might notice that on your ticket that there is a "check box" that indicates that you were alone. (You might not, it depends on the jurisdiction, I guess.)

My understanding is that officers prefer to ticket people not in a pack, because it makes it easier on them in court; if you're in a pack, you can argue that the officer *might* have picked up the person in front/next to/behind you, making it a bit harder on you.

Being in a pack isn't foolproof or anything, but it is a bit safer -- partially due to the above, partially due to the "schooling" effect (because there's a chance he'll pick other people in the pack).

My ticket was in Dallas county. Probably the fee schedule was different over there. I was in the stupid HOV lane when I got stopped.

It's illegal to go above the speed limit even if the entire "pack" of cars are speeding.

Yep. But you're less likely to get ticketed than if you do it alone. :)

I guess it's good that the Police Officer didn't see my Texas plates and sticker thingy under some papers in the passenger seat.

I really need to get my TX DL soon.

No, he edged out in front, so technically it would be - If 1TC jumped off a cliff, would the pack follow?

Also, I was told by a sheriff once that their radar guns pick up the larger vehicles over the smaller ones (if a Civic is beside an Escalade, it'll pick up the Escalade)...What kind of car do you drive and was there larger cars around you?

Oh, I was doing 70mph. There was no doubt in my mind that it was me he was gonna get when he got into his car. I had already made my way over to the right lane from the left before his turned the lights on. The whole stop took maybe at most 5 minutes. Pretty quick and to the point

If you hand over your license wrapped in a fifty, you get off with a warning.

TX requires you to get a TX driver's license within 30 days of moving here. It is a significant fine if you don't have it on time. So if you already have the tag....
For 10 miles over, you can probably get deferred. The issue is going to be the driver licence. You have to give the courts a copy of your TX driving record, which you won't have.

I do not have to give the courts a copy of my TX driving history. You don't even have to have a TX license to get a deferred disposition.

I'm getting my TX DL next week, I'm waiting to get an official transcript from OU to use as proof of a social security number then I'll go get my TX DL.

And you can get a deferred disposition up to 25mph over.
