Will step down May 12 after the Spring semester ends. Hopefully he can get healthy again. A great loss for the university.

Is he sick or something? Looked like hell on TV recently.

I think its a huge loss to OU. Boren did more for OU than any one except maybe Boyd, Parrington or Cross.

Nah. The fact he is a republican probably has him blacklisted by the "academics". Keating would be good though. There is no doubt that he can raise some $$$ and he loves OU.

Is he ill?President Bpren has had some serious back problems and is also a diabetic. The reason he has lost so much weight recently is because he is on a special diabetic diet. It will be interesting to see who is selected. I hope it is someone with Oklahoma ties, but not necessarily a recent politician. Roger Webb at UCO would be a good choice.

Why did he go from NSU to UCO?

Why did he go from NSU to UCO?It was a bigger job, plus he had been at NSU a billion years. Only so much you can do.

Mjcpr
4/27/2006, 09:06 AM
How is it a bigger job? Not arguing, just asking.

I'd think NSU is a much larger school than UCO.

I really can't think of one negative against him. Prominent & successful OU grad with lots of connections in government and business, just like Boren was.

The last thing we need is another "academic" being made president of OU, unless you want OU to decline again.

I would recommend Brad Henry, but I don't think there's room for a casino on campus.

Speaking as a "liberal-academic"-in-training :D...in my opinion, the leader of a university needs to be an upstanding individual, good with the press, an major fundraiser, and be willing to pretty much constantly beg the Oklahoma legislature for more mone...CONSTANTLY. I'm inclined to think JC might fit that bill...he'd probably do OK. I'm thinking a politician may be the BEST way to go, because they have an idea of how the whole government-money machiene works. Let's face it, OU still has a loooong way to go...Boren has set an incredible standard, and the growth of the faculty and research dollars (read: prestige) of OU has been outstanding. We'll need somone to pick up right where he left off.

...and for some reason, I'd like JC more than Keating...Keating just makes me feel...weird, I guess. Plus, JC's respect on the national scale would be to OU's advantadge.

I agree, 100%. A politcian who loves OU, just like Boren. Thats the key IMO.

JC would be fantastic. Could anyone imagine a former QB replacing Boren! That would blow people away.

Now, in the interest of the economy of the state of Oklahoma, I think it's best that the University be moved to Oklahoma City.

Really? You must not talk to many moderate conservatives then.

Keating did an OK job for this state IMO. The Gov can't do much though. His handling of the Murrah bombing and helping to raise funds for the memorial far outweigh the stupid stuff he said about the teachers unions. Actions speak a lot louder than words, and the guy is connected and loves OU.

See....that's what I was looking for. I had no idea UCO was a bigger school than NSU, I'd have guessed the opposite. I know NSU has at least 3 campuses but I don't know of any other UCO....but they're probably in the western part of the state.

Re: UCO v NSU

UCO Feb 2003: 14,241 students
NSU Spring 2005: 8,900 students

Those were just the quickest and easiest numbers for me to find with a Google search.

well, this morning they were taking down a big banner on the SO that had "We'll Miss You Pres. Boren!" on it. I'm thinking senior prank.

and i don't think Boren's ill, I think he just looks a lot older now. since he lost like 68 lbs (or however much it was) you can see his wrinkles a lot more.
