I just did this tonight--it's a graduation present for Iggy's bro. It's from a picture I took of Iggy and his twin while I was in Hawaii last summer.

You know, mostly I don't like that kind of art, but it's really well balanced between a broad stroke landscape and a finer stroke focal point (the guys). What medium is that? Acryllic?

Really, really good, pg. You have too much talent. :D

proud gonzo
4/27/2006, 11:55 AM
yeah, i had to use acryllics so it'd dry quick enough Iggy could put it in a suitcase...about three hours after I finished it :D

Cool! My grandmother used to work with acryllics. From what I can understand they can be tricky... What do you prefer working with?

But which ones Iggy ? ;)

he's on the right. But i'm a little aggravated because they're both a little skinnier than i painted them. i wasn't a lot of attention to details there, and i'm bad with proportions--i always make things shorter and wider than they should be. so in the painting Iggy almost has manboobs and a hunchback... when he really doesn't. but I can't change the painting now because it's in Michigan already.

I like acrylics and oils. It just depends what I want to do. Acrylics dry faster and they don't have as much texture. oils take a very long time to dry and they're very thick. there are advantages and disadvantages to both. I end up working with acrylics more frequently because I don't have that much time to paint, and i don't have the space to leave paintings sitting out to dry.

You need to learn how to make things longer if you want any kind of career painting men.

I've never understood this perception about acrylics. and I hear it often from oil painters. acrylics dry extremely fast and they aren't as vibrant as oils, they're latex/plastic based which doesn't always fit well with the blending.:eddie:

proud gonzo
4/27/2006, 10:22 PM
yeah--I think acrylics are easier to work with than oils, but oil is more versatile. acrylics don't seem to stay as brilliant when you mix colors. it's almost easier to mix the color with a glaze or thin it down with water and do layers. you just can't paint the same way with them as you do with oils.

I'll keep all of this in mind if I someday graduate from finger paints. :D

FYI, ALL paints are finger paints, you just have to use your fingers.

proud gonzo
4/28/2006, 09:44 AM
true. except some of the paints contain carcinogens, so that's kinda bad.

one of my blues...I don't remember which one...stains my fingers really bad.
