Do they put a life jacket on you when you go out in the middle of the sea?

No.....but it is so easy to float on the top of the water with your fins......

they gave us an inflatable one in case we needed it..but uninflated it allowed diving.

The boat is probably required to have a life jacket on board for every passenger, but I doubt that you have to wear them.

If you are uncomfortable in the water, many dive captains will suggest you wear a life jacket. It gives you a more secure feeling, and you can still see a great deal of the surroundings from the surface.
diving down below the surface is a bitch though.

Your choice. But if you plan on diving down and kissing that eel, you ain't gonna do it with a life jacket.

meh....if you are going further than snorkel depth you ain't snorkeling, you are diving :)
