View Full Version : Etiquette for hitting on waitresses?

So I am out in downtown Lincoln last night for a friends bachelor party. At one of the bars, there was a hawt Catherine Keener-lookalike waitress, and she didn't have a tramp stamp. I was considering making a pass at her, but I decided that is bad form while out on a bachelor party excursion, since my focus should be on getting the groom to be to regret living tomorrow.(which was accomplished) I also realized had never hit on a waitress before,(been hit on by waitress before, but I hadn't intiated it) and what I wanted to know is are there any special rules I should know about for this situation. I figure at the very least it has to be a better idea than hitting on a stripper.

Was this at a bar? I would imagine that they get hit on a lot and anyone's chance at succeeding is low. Not just yours.

If it is a resturant and you can tell she is interested by flirting or whatever, just give her your number when you tab out and tell her that you would like to take her out sometime...is that hard to do?

I have a better question. How do you "flirt" with a girl you meet while shopping? Twice, in the very, very, very distant past, I've been hit on, pretty blatently, while shopping, and twice I've managed to act like a dork.

of course they are going to flirt back so you will give a bigger tip.

it doesn't mean they really like you.

i got a LOT of numbers when i was waiting tables but i never called any of them.

This sort of reminds me of the "South Park" episode where Butters was in love with the waitress from Raisins, only to find out she was only working him over to get a good tip.

My general rule: don't hit on waitresses unless it's someone you know from outside their job.

Maybe you could become a regular at this place. Always be asked to be seated in her section. I know a couple who met when the woman was a bank teller, and the guy always came through her line. After a while, he asked her out and now they are married.
