I found out I can stay at the Sooner Hotel for $55 per night or in the dorms for $16 per night. Hmmm...

That's a long time to be in a hotel...
Is your work paying for it? If not, I imagine you can write the expenses off. I'd stay at the Residence Inn or some other place with a little kitchenette and some extra room.
Or, take Dolemite up on his offer. You'd probably just have to buy him a couple of bottles of booze and he'd call it even.

My work is not paying for it, but I will be getting scholarship money later on to make up for it.

What about La Quinta, Executive Suites or Holiday Inn? The La Quinta & Executive Suites are close to the Noble Pkwy chain restaurant park over there.

If I was coming in from out of town and had a choice, I'd first try & talk Dean into hooking me up with a reservation at the postal training center's Marriott. Best amenities in Norman, not even close.
