Seems laptops are more popular. not that thats news, but the first two sentences from this article made me go 'heh'.

A funny thing happened in May 2003; sales of laptop computers outpaced desktop computers for the first time, accounting for 54 percent of computer sales that month, according to an Associated Press article published in USA Today that July.

An even funnier thing happened in May of 2005: Laptop computers outsold desktop computers for the first time ... again. That was according to an Associated Press story that ran in USA Today last June with almost the same headline.

One is portable, one isn't.

If your question is more complicated than that, I am of no help.

you have no idea what my first one went through

i'd put one up against a PC laptop any day for durability, especially the newer ones

I was thinking of just getting an older one off the net, just to hold me over until the newer stuff starts coming out.

A buddy of mine has an older toughbook. I've seen him literally punt the thing while it was on and then continue to work.
