View Full Version : I just got the Holy Grail delivered to me

Well, the Holy Grail if you collect Air Jordans, I suppose.

I bought a pair of black & red AJXIs off eBay on Monday, and spent the past couple of days resigning myself to the fact that I, most likely, bought "variants" (nicespeak for "fakes"). So, I get home from work tonight and find the box waiting for me. I bring it back to the 'puter room and open it up, taking out one shoe and going down the list of quick ways to spot fake Jordans. I check the tag inside the shoe...no perforations on the edges. Good so far.

So, I go to the bookmarks and pull up a couple of sites that have side-by-side comparisons of fakes vs. real XIs...and my new shoe keeps passing with flying colors. After I finally check everything on the list, it dawns on me...I just got a pair of authentic AJXI Retros...

I RULE at teh internet. :D

Done and done. During the season, we offer breakfast for two with the room. Of course this assumes that you managed to score, and have a "partner" to eat breakfast with you. We do operate under the "don't ask, don't tell" credo....

It's the stained glass window inside the church, Sainte-Mere-Eglise. It's a tribute to the 82nd.

http://www.dday-overlord.com/img/normatoday/pus/sainte_mere_eglise_vitrail_sainte_marie.jpg

When we went to France last fall we toured that Church (the one from The Longest Day) and the town. The dropped into town on the night of the 5th. It was the first town liberated on D-Day.

Too much Nike in this thread.

BTW, the AJXIs are the shoes that Jordan wore during perhaps the greatest NBA season ever:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3e/MikeJSlam.jpg

Freshly motivated by the playoff defeat, Jordan trained aggressively for the 1995-96 season. Strengthened by the addition of rebounder extraordinaire Dennis Rodman, the Bulls dominated the league, finishing 72-10: the best season record in NBA history. Jordan won the league's regular season and All-Star Game MVP awards. In the playoffs, the Bulls lost only three games in four series, defeating the Seattle Supersonics in the NBA Finals to win the championship. Jordan was named Finals MVP for the fourth time, surpassing Magic Johnson.

Jordans peaked at VI. Everything after that was a poor substitute.

They were all I wanted for my birthday in 5th grade, and I got them the day before the 5th grade dance, so I thought I was the ****.

bri
4/21/2006, 11:58 PM
The VI is my favorite of the single-digit models (with the possible exception of the IX)...due in no small part to the fact that it's the model MJ wore the season the Bulls won their first title. :D

OUAndy1807
4/22/2006, 12:12 AM
ok, I'm buying some, but here is my dillema:

The V's were the first pair of shoes I can ever remember completely lusting over (I was in the 4th grade), they're lower cut (so they're more practical) and they're a lot more "retro" looking than the VI's.

I actually had a pair of VI's, they're more subtle, bu still totally sweet but they aren't as noticable.

I'm torn.
