with my two year old son, I came across this series of Japanese-art-type books called "Love Mode."

Well, let me tell you what, I was appalled. The basic premise is of a man abducting and raping a young boy.

Now, I'm all for freedom of speech, but a book portraying an illegal act (with graphic pictures) being placed in the children's book section.... three shelves down from Curious George and The Cat in the Hat.... is absolutely WRONG!

Has anyone else seen this garbage in their local book store's children's section?

Our B&N has been closed since Katrina.

But if they have that kind of **** in their store, I won't be taking slickdaughter
there anyway.

After checking out that book at Amazon, I have to believe that the book could only have been in the B&N children's section by mistake. Hard to imagine B&N would have it there deliberately. Probably some dim bulb employee put it there erroneously, or maybe a few juvenile patrons thought it would be funny to move it there.

Did you confront the store manager and ask him why it was there?

I told him to remove it, and then I immediately left the store.

My plan is to go back there this weekend and see if it is still there. If it is, I will be contacting the local news media..... and the local authorities.

Have you considered involving the CIA? PETA?

Abducting and raping a child is a crime, no matter how you slice it. I'm no lawyer, but the graphic portrayal of such being found in the children's section of a book store MIGHT be of interest to law enforcement.

so was there just one copy of it there?

Hatfield

actually it wouldn't.

Anime. I would probably be inclined to go with the "utterly clueless store employee", but "deliberate prank by juveniles" is a possibility. Either way I don't think the store did it intentionally.

I am interested, however, in what the manager has to say when you go back. Please post follow-up.

Nope. There was a whole series of 'em. Multiple copies of each.

I buy all my books at WalMart. They ain't got no kiddy porn books there. And no fag coffee shop.

Just a buncha PWT heifers with polyester stretch pants, bleached hair with black/gray roots showing, and a couple of illegitimate inbred cross-eyed curtain climbers in tow.

The theory of the "utterly clueless and inept store employee" gains more traction.

Funny, I didn't think B&N actually carried explicit anime/comics/graphic novels.

Ok, but violating an obscenity law-- and I don't know what the laws are in your state-- would have more to do with the book being on display to the public anywhere in the store; the "section" of the store really wouldn't be an issue. If the material is considered "obscene" under your state's laws, then it probably either a) can't be sold at all, or b) has to be kept behind the counter.

e - laws in Louisiana are WAY DIFFERENT than in Alabama.

Mardi Gras would result in 10,000,000 arrests in Alabama.

You mean someone has placed a book/magazine/commercial/TV show that is inappropriate for children within their reach?

I am so surprised.

Welcome to the slippery slope.

There is virtually no difference in the two areas.

My inlaws and their families grew up (lived in) Flomaton, Alabama, on
the state line in AL. Slickwife's grandfathers property, 6 acres, was in
two states. The back half Florida, the front half Alabama.

We've called the whole area Lower Alabama forever.

Slick... Alabama has the oldest Mardi Gras celebration in North America.

Not as big and not as raunchy as the pre-Katrina NOLA affair, but it's a pretty big deal in Mobile.

I parade every year.

Mobile has been doing it forever, NOLA added the boobies and got
way more popular.

I think you've got it all wrong, WHB. You should be damn glad that's what was in the kids section and not like a Bible or something, because that could really **** kids up.

I didn't know there were enough Catholics in the whole state of Alabama to even hold a parade.

Mobile is predominantly Catholic.

The rest of the state's religious wacko's don't care much for us sinners...

I wasn't shopping for a Bible that day.... my boy's already got one. He's no more screwed up than any other 2 1/2 year old.

Sick.

I just thought that I'd mention that not all Japanese culture revolves around the violation of young children, in case some people are confused.

Though, according to this guy (http://www.outpostnine.com/editorials/teacher.html), the reverse statement seems to have some validity. ;)

WalMart is an instrument of Sauron. You give up a piece of your soul every time you shop there. Stop it before it's too late and you lose your entire soul and become a martwraith, or worse, a fan of the Texas Longwhorns.

I'm still wondering how it's legal to sell this anywhere, much less the children's book aisle at Barnes & Noble.
