So news of 'new' cross platform windows/linux proof of concept virus has been spreading. Actually, it ain't new, just very few people knew about the exploit. Anyway, This code worked on linux systems with kernel versions up to 2.6.16, but none of the kernels after this.
After a few hours of poking around, Torvalds found that the virus didn't work in the new kernel because of a 'bug' (or feature in developer language) in GCC (the compiler) that prevented the virus from running its code. Linus promplty released a patch that would MAKE THE VIRUS WORK in kernel versions 2.6.16 and greater.
obviously, He's getting tired of working on Linux. ;)
