View Full Version : Electric company asking people to set the thermostat at 78 or higher

No way, Jones.

As long as I can afford my electric bill, I'm going to have my A/C cranking. I am NOT going to sit here and sweat in my own home!

Let some other numbnut "conserve" power. I need some cool air!

I have already applied for the great big fat person exemption to keep my thermostat at 72.

If you're going to make it 80 degrees inside your home, why not just really save energy and leave the a/c off and just sit outside all day?

I see a lot of people going for this...

We keep ours on 78. It really isn't that bad if you don't break the 78 barrier. Once you do that, you are screwed for the summer.

Why are the electric companies unable to cope with this weather? We have it for months every summer. Is it just because some hot weather arrived earlier than they are prepared for or what?

My ac is set at 65, beyonces!

Yea yea, whenever I step outside, I pretty much die. But I am not paying for it, why shouldnt I enjoy it? I like to be coooold. :D

It is because it is unexpected. April is usually a very mild month, and so in Texas there are generators off-grid for scheduled maintenance.

Why not do the maint. on them in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb and Mar?

lol.....I think we listen to the same radio station.

Could be worse Okies, down in Dallas last night each part of town went through a rolling blackout. Each "area" was in the dark for about 15 minutes or so. That meant traffic lights were out, etc. Sucked a big one.

Not to mention ERCOT hadn't bought enough power for the day. Some of what they were short they had to buy on the market (mucho dinero), and their other way of dealing was the rolling blackouts.

They kept talking about the blackouts on the news but my power stayed on all day.

Suckers!!!!

Man, if I was on vacation and the park just shut down because of no power, I'd be ticked. I bet Disney doesn't even give you your money back.

At least ERCOT has margaritas in the Mexican part of the thing, I'd run over there and get some before they all melted.

Nice try. Just because there's a website with those letters doesn't mean you didn't screw up. Just admit it and move on.

I mean, www.goggle.com is a real website too. Do you think I actually meant to type that? No.

Grow up.

Lets see, $300 electric bill vs $120 electric bill. I don't know about you, but I like saving money and a valid excuse to run around the house naked is always fun ;).

Well, I'm not playing. Good day Beano.

ERCOT is predicting the load to top out at 53,500 Megawatts today later this afternoon. We will see if they are right. You can actually look at the real-time power statistics on the www.ercot.com website. If the frequency starts heading south of 60, watch out.

The thermostat only governs the temp in the hallway. So the temp there is only somewhat relative to the temp in the rooms where we are.

It's on 73 from about 7pm-9am, then it's 71. It's a cool dark hallway.

There better not be any blackouts. My meth production is in a very critical stage right now.

I have the opposite problem. My thermo works fine (I think), but I can't get it cooler than about 76 if the outer temp is over 90. It gets worse if we have the oven on or if we're drying clothes.

Gonna have to call the dude out and eat some cost, I'm afraid. I probably have a leak somewhere.

Go check your plenum to make sure it's sealed well. Ours had partially detached one year and we were cooling the attic.

Becuase they are needed to make power to heat all those "all-electric" homes. Actually, this transitional season is the lowest time for energy needs. Leave it to TV to make it a big controversy...Unusally hot weather in an unusual time - must be Bush's fault.
