Mom,
He understands "show me your green card." Trust me.

Gut check time for you if he doesn't have one. IMHO, it's your bidness whether you choose to employ him if he's undocumented, although legislatures around the country are planning statutes which may criminalize employment of illegals.

Just saying.

Try this site:

Not all translations are accurate, especially when trying to translate complex sentences. But most words and short phrases come out Ok.

Clean the pool. Mow the lawn. Water the garden. Repair the gate. Rub my shoulders.

Thanks for tips ya'll. Please and thank you were the first words that I learned. He goes to the Spanish mass at my church and is a very decent older gentleman, so I wouldnt want to be rude by asking him for a green card. I'm just grateful that after a week someone finally answered my ad. His sister in law, who speaks a little English, helps me once a week in the house. She and her husband, Pedros brother, just gave $800.00 to the church. She said that she will drive him over and splain what I need him to do on the days he works. :)

How you say..."Are you thirsty, would you care for some water or iced tea?

On the days he works, it would be sweet of you to buy and place in a shady spot a nice Igloo jug you keep filled with fresh water and ice with a handy drinking cup. Either that or a cooler with some sports drinks and bottled water.

Every time he works, take a stereo outside and play the Macarena. It's a rule that they have to stop what they are doing and dance.

Well, the day went well. Pedro works slow but dont we all at our age? The afternoon ended with Pedro, his two sister in laws, my husband and me sitting on the patio drinking peach tea as the onw sister translated for us.

Today he is coming over to learn how to clean the pool. My husband is just so busy with work these days and he is getting up in years. That along with my health problems I'm dealing with right now, I must say that its a real blessing to have Pedro around. :)

If you have a twisted sense of humor and wanna get a chuckle - while he's sitting on the patio sipping tea get a really terrified look on your face, jump up and point to the gate and yell "La Migra!!!!!"

Pedro will caca in his pantalones.
