NORMAN — The No. 13 Oklahoma baseball team (28-10, 8-4 Big 12) will look for its seventh consecutive victory (ninth in the last 10) this Tuesday against No. 1 Rice (32-8, 11-1 Conference USA). First pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m.

OU and Rice have only met on five prior occasions, with OU holding a 3-2 advantage. Most recently, the Owls topped the Sooners 8-2 in the Coca-Cola Classic earlier this season in Houston. The last time they played in Norman was during the 1991 season.

"I think Tuesday's game has a chance to be a great midweek match-up, with two highly ranked teams that are projected to be seeded high in the postseason," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. "I am excited for not only our players and the program, but for our fans to have top-ranked Rice coming to L. Dale Mitchell Park. I hope they fill the ballpark and give us a Super Regional type atmosphere."

MEDIA EXPOSURE
Tuesday’s games will be broadcast live on KOKC 1520 AM with Chuck Kelly calling the play-by-play and DeWayne Vaughn providing the color analysis. Pregame coverage for all Sooner baseball games, begins 15 minutes prior to first pitch. In addition, live stats for all games this season can be viewed on Soonersports.com. UPDATING THE SOONERS
The Oklahoma baseball team finished off an undefeated week with four straight wins to extend its current winning streak to six games.

OU started off the week with a ninth-inning victory over TCU on Tuesday at home. Trailing 11-10 heading into its final at-bat, OU received a little help from TCU first baseman Chad Huffman, as he kicked a potential game-ending ground ball off of Russell Raley’s bat into foul territory and allowed two Sooners to cross the plate for the 12-11 victory.

After a 6-4 win on Friday for Daniel McCutchen (his first since March 10) over Missouri in the series opener, the ninth-inning magic returned to L. Dale Mitchell Park on Saturday, as OU used six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to top Missouri, 8-6. On Sunday in the series finale, OU again trailed heading into its last at-bat and scored three runs in the ninth to complete the sweep of the Tigers. Freshman Nate Hammons earned his first and second career victories on Saturday and Sunday, after pitching the final two outs in both games.

It should be a great game tomorrow. Wish I coul be there to see how our guys measure up the Rice hooters. Hopefully there'll be a good crowd there.

Is there any way to find out who's pitching? Don't tell me "Who's" on first!!

Galloway said after the game on sunday that with PJ having such a short outting compared to a usual start that if he was up to it that he would get the start. After that it is really just however Sunny and coach corral feel the best about, it changes frequently, hince our struggling in mid week games.

OU beats No. 1 Rice, 15-3

NORMAN — The No. 13 Oklahoma baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games in a big way on Tuesday with a 15-3 victory over No. 1 Rice at L. Dale Mitchell Park in front of 2,657 fans.

Joe Dunigan (3-for-5, 2 home runs) and Freddy Rodriguez (4-for-4) powered the Sooner offense with three RBI apiece as the Sooners outhit the Owls 14-9. OU improved to 29-10 overall (8-4 Big 12) and Rice fell to 32-9.

Ryan Mottern (3-1) recorded the win for the Sooners with 5 1/3 innings pitched, with two runs allowed on six hits and two walks. Mottern also struck out three batters and Will Savage collected his seventh save of the season after coming into the ball game with a 7-3 OU lead and two runners on base in the top of the seventh inning.

Will McDaniel suffered his first loss of the season as the Owls’ 14-game winning streak came to an abrupt end on Tuesday. McDaniel tossed four innings and was chased out after allowing six runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk. The Owls also committed three errors on the night.

The Sooners took an early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning and increased the cushion with a five-run fifth frame. Rice brought the game back within striking distance after the top of the seventh (7-3), but OU used another big inning with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the game away.

The last time OU defeated the No. 1 team in the nation was during the 2004 season. On March 20 at L. Dale Mitchell Park, the Sooners topped then-No. 1 Texas, 3-2. Additionally, Tuesday’s crowd was a season high and also marked the largest attendance at a Sooner home game since May 9, 1998, when 3,168 fans were on hand to witness OU defeat Texas, 14-6.

OU will return to Big 12 play this weekend when it hits the road to take on Texas Tech for a three-game series. Action gets underway on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by another 6:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, which will be broadcast live on Cox channel 7 in Oklahoma City. Sunday’s finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the entire three-game series can be heard live on KOKC 1520 AM.

Will Savage collected his seventh save of the season after coming into the ball game with a 7-3 OU lead and two runners on base in the top of the seventh inning.

Does college baseball record saves different from MLB? Because that's not a save.

Dunno here - if it is like the majors, then a save shouldn't be recorded because he didn't pitch 3 full innings, nor did the potential tying run ever make it to the on-deck circle. Or did it?

Lets see - here's Rice's 7th (thanks, SoonerSports.com)...
(Burns, B. to p for Brownell, J..)
Bramhall flied out to cf (1 out, 5 run lead)
(Reagan pinch hit for Lehmann.)
Reagan walked. (1 out, 5 run lead, - 1 on base = 4)
Henley flied out to lf. (2 out, 5 run lead, - 1 on base = 4)
Buchanan walked; Reagan advanced to second (2 out, 5 run lead, 2 on base = 3)
Savery singled up the middle, RBI (3-2); Buchanan advanced to second; Reagan scored (2 out, 4 run lead, 2 on base = 2)

With the next batter up, and the on-deck batter that last number = 0, so it's now a "save" situation.

(Savage, W. to p for Burns, B..)
Rodriguez grounded out to 2b (0-1).
1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 2 LOB.

And there's your save.
