View Full Version : Thinking about getting a motorcycle

Well, I'm leasing my car and things were fine but now that I drive 500 miles each week to work this lease isn't going to work out so much.

I'm thinking about buying a motorcycle to commute to work. Currently I drive 820 to 35W to 287 to 20. All interstate. Is that a death wish to ride a motorcycle on these roads? Now I know that I should be able to judge that for myself as I drive that each day each way but you also know that my judgement sucks. I need your help.

Assuming these won't be thrown across the interstate of course...

I just want something for less than $5k. I'm 6'-4" and weigh about 250# so for a cruiser/harley type bike anything under 900cc and I look like the Grape Ape on that van of his.

I want a motorcycle for light commuting, but I wouldn't hit I-35 daily. Bad news.

If you're lucky, you'll only soil the seat a few times.

I got some stuff paid off early. In the long run this will pay off by me not going over on my lease mileage allowance.

I put 15,000 miles per year on a bike. Assume the other guy is going to pull out in front of you.He is going to slam on his brakes in front of you.And change lanes into you.Unless you hit a deer or dog.Hell forget it I'am selling mine there dangerous as hell be carefull.

I had one when I was in HS. Until my FB coach found out and he made me sell it. I had a few folks pull out in front of me and never had a wreck.

Anyhoo, PM the detals if you are really selling a bike.

I'm not quite sure how to take that...

Why don't you just see about buying extra miles on the lease instead of splattering your dome all over 635?

My wife began calling them "donorcycles" when she did her neuro rotation in nursing school.

Its not the guy on the bike, its everyone else on the road who often just doesn't see the bike...or when they do, for some reason refuse to acknowledge a bike can have the right-of-way. Result, lots of dead right bikers.

Just buy a small car. You'll be safer in a flippin' Mini-Cooper than on a bike.

Extra miles on the G6 will be cheaper than traction and plastic surgery.

Can I just call GMAC or do I need to talk to a dealer? Does it have to be the dealer I leased it from?

Move closer. You live in an apartment, right?

I rode motorcycles when I was young and there is NO WAY I'd ride one today on major city streets/highways.

is it still worth the $43.65 now that you commute further to work?

I suspect any of these choices will be more knowledgable than SO.
Prolly not near as much fun though.

can I have your liver?
Big spek points on here for liver donations.
If not your liver, Ill take a kidney, but about everyone on here has donated or received one of those.

I'm pretty sure that my liver is the least donor-worthy organ I have. My brain is in like-new condition, rarely used.

An uncle of mine had a liver transplant and the donor guy was killed on a motorcycle. Circle of life.
