there are some great old commercial on Youtube I'd like to download straight to my computer. is there anyway I can achieve this? most streaming video i have to play to my component dvd burner but for Youtube it would be hassle.

I was looking for something on the Ty-D-Bowl man from the old commercials yesterday and couldn't find anything.

yeah, they use some kinda swf/Flash streaming, i've yet to figure out how to steal them

Yep, they're using Macromedia flash, and I haven't found a capture method yet either, dammit.

Try downloading Fraps and using it as your video capturing tool. There is a free version that you can try (I think the free version will only allow you to capture 30 seconds), and if it works, you can pay the $19 (or whatever it is now) for the full version.

Like I said, there is a free version available that will allow you to capture 30 seconds of video at a time. If your commercial is 30 seconds or less you're in bid'ness, and won't need the upgraded version.

Find the link to the youtube video in question. Paste it into the area indicated. It then saves it as a permanent file type. For some you have to get a new type of viewer. (i.e. a viewer for .flv file types for YouTube)

To summarize this thread:
We find the video we want to save and ask Skysooner or Czar to save it for us. Instantly they will do so and email us the file. WTG, guys!

It will save it as an FLV file. You have to download the FLV player under help.

It works great for me. I've downloaded dozens of videos.

I thought I saw an extension for firefox that's supposed to let you download streaming videos . . . it's on my PC at home, but I don't think it works with the most current version of firefox for some reason.

I'll check when I get back to the house later.
