I guess Natalie Maines and the rest of her band are going to stand their ground.

Whatever...it is up to them, I am pretty sure that it is career suicide.

Lyrics from the new album

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it
I made my bed and I sleep like a baby

With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

Who cares...haven't they been replaced on the country music map by Carrie Underwood anyway? Funny that it seems that while everyone is soaking in all that is Carrie Underwood, nobody is really missing the Dixie Chicks...I didn't even know they were still together (granted I don't follow country music) but I'd still hear about them all the time a few years ago...Now, nothing...other than their GW bashing...

If those lyrics are about Iraq, it's clear that she just doesn't get it.

However, those lyrics could be about a guy that pumped and dumped her. In which case, there are probably about a couple hundred guys out there reading those lyrics and saying "damn that woman can hold a grudge." :D

I don't think that there are a couple of hundred guys out there that would hit that.

At this rate the Dixie Chicks will be headlining on Rosie's Cruiselines in a few years.

They sucked before they badmouthed Bush, and they still suck. Suck will follow them for their entire careers.

The Dixie Chunks are so yesterday news...

I've forgotten they were a band...

The Dixie Chunks are so yesterday news...

I've forgotten they were a band...So had I...until all this talk came out about their new album. The talk is whether or not they can make a comeback...will country music play their music on the radio?

It seems to be a pretty much 50/50 split for the most part...some places are more anti-chicks and a few places are more pro-chicks, but it averages out to be about half and half.

Ive used "pro-chicks" before. I find them somewhat aloof, but less constricting on a long-term basis.

I dont think I can ever see myself being anti-chick.
Unless your talking about that goofy girl band.

I think the Dixie Chicks need to realize that they lost the whole PR battle with Toby Keith. They need to let it go and just make non-political music. They sound like aggies.

And the two sisters, oh, I would.

I never saw the original story... did they just call W an idiot? Because I think ~70% of America does that every day. :P

Now, if they badmouthed the soldiers, then that's horse****.

they were at a show in England or somewhere overseas and said that they were embarrassed to be from the same state as the POTUS.

That pretty much sums it up.

From Wikipedia:

A couple of weeks later, on March 10, 2003, during the run-up to the invasion of Iraq (which would take place on March 20), Natalie Maines (a native of Lubbock, Texas) said between songs during a concert at the Shepherd's Bush Empire theatre in London:

"Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." [1]

Don't forget the whole ****ing match with Toby Keith...the lead singer wore a shirt on a nationally televised awards show that had FUTK on the front of it...it was pretty classless.

She denied that it had anything to do with the exchange of words between her and TK.

They also were given an interview with 60 Minutes and rather than say they were sorry for offending anybody OR having any sense of remorse...they just tried to justify their actions

NormanPride

Hmm... Them's strong words... Still, most of the US doesn't like his performance. If they were badmouthing the troops I'd join in the hate-fest, but this just seems silly. So some stupid country chicks don't like the president? Since when is this bad?

EDIT: The Keith thing is stupid. Yeah, stupid country chicks saying silly things. Who cares?

By the time Natalie "Pinko" Maines is 35 years old, the over-under for her weight will be 200.

One question continues in all of this too....Would they have made those statements on stage...in say Dallas or Houston???

Me thinks not.

The smart, hawt sisters have pretty much stayed out of this deal. the fat chick was the one arguing with Toby and spouting off.

Well of course not. They would have been killed. They may be dumb, but they're smart cowards.

Taxman71

They don't or ever will worry about money with what they already have made. The original statement about Bush was inappropriate considering the timing and location, but didn't bother me that much. It was their (really just the lead singer) continued spouting off about their rights, Toby Keith, telling their fans to shut up, etc. that turned me off.

Like Bush said, they do have the right to say what they did, but they don't have the right to make everyone agree with them.

See, but if the sisters were smart, they would have cut that one loose a while back. Why can't they quit her?

1. She can sing very well.
2. Girls always want a big-boned girl around to make themselves look thinner.
