I know this has been discussed over and over, but it is amazing how much more quality The Ticket is than The Sports Animal? The Ticket guys are frikkin hillarious. Right now they are all in the "ticket compound". All the main guys are staying in a house for a week straight. They have webcams, etc... Funny stuff.

Corby's interviews are pretty damn funny. He was interviewing some offensive lineman at the Super Bowl and he asked "if you guys don't win this game, is it possible you could lose it?"

Try living where I'm at and you would take the Sports Animal in a heartbeat.
One of the local radio shows here usually devotes Tuesdays to OU and other Oklahoma-related talk. But there wasn't a lot of time devoted to talking about Jeff Capel's hiring, even though there was discussion of the spring game. No, they had to have one of the northwest Arkansas sportswriters on to discuss the Razorbacks, and to discuss whether Ronnie Brewer (Hog b-ball player) is going pro or not, which they could do another day. When Jeff Capel's name was mentioned, one of the hosts said "Oh, he played for Duke when they lost to Arkansas in the '94 national championship game." They did Tuesday's show from a local casino and they did have a guy on there, a die-hard OU fan I might add, who talked a little bit about the spring game but mostly talked about his adventures as a big-time poker player.

I couldn't agree more. Listening to the 690 and 1000 during NFL season is just painful. To hear them talk about how awesome the Bears were all the time was just embarrassing. It made me want the Bears to lose so all those morons could see what a lame team they had. I've given up on Chicago sports radio.

Im moving to Denver in a few weeks, hopefully the sports talk there is better, although it appears its not that great. At least I like the Broncos more than the Bears.

I remember listening to Tulsa sports radio on 1430 a couple years ago. I listened to the entire show every afternoon because I had a job where that was about all I could do. I really liked it alot and thought they did a pretty good job. I never listende to OKC sports radio when I was at OU. Not enough time spent in the car I guess.

Pretty much like the schtick on the Ticket except.. the Hard Line's incessant jabbering about the Rangers and basebore. Not being a basebore fan at all, it's a major whip to hear them prattle on about false hopes and broken dreams.. And it's worse when the basketball playoffs are over and there is nothing BUT basebore to talk about until training camps open for football.

Of course, Norm's, "well... in games played east of the Mississippi, north of Denton, Texas, when the moon is in the second house and there is a breeze between 3 -5 m.p.h., when being pitched to by an albino, midget circus clown from the right side, Juando Cabrito hits .450."

Honestly, the Ticket hasn't had a really credible sports guru since Chuck Cooperstein, IMO, but Chuck was a total jackass. I never cared if every guy on there was a sports wiz. I enjoyed Gordon's bits and the sports banter. Mark Fallowell was a great ticker guy and I was always up on my sports. Rocco was fun for me to listen to, because he was so hated.

I loved it when Barry was on. He was the best. I went out with Dale Hansen after the Byron Nelson one year and got pretty drunk with him. I whipped his *** with Barry Switzer questions for 2 hours. I am very proud of that moment.

The Ticket is greatness because there are plenty of pro-OU guys there. Junior Miller grew up in OKC and is a Sooner fan. Corby "Snake" Davidson's dad played football at OU in the late 60s, so he's huge fan. Switzer does a call in thing Thursdays during the football season.

Eveyone's pretty funny in their own way except B.A.D. Radio (Bob And Dan). They're yankees.

As far a colleges go, the hosts break down like this:

George "Jub Jub" Dunham - went to North Texas, is the North Texas play-by-play guy. Most famous for his call following the game that put them in their first bowl game a few years back, "Do you believe in the Mean Green!"

Craig "Junior" Miller - went to North Texas, but due to his OKC childhood is an OU fan.

Norm Hitzges - unknown. He's been in the DFW sports media for freaking ever and is really into professional sports. He does a monster NFL draft show on draft day.

Bob and Dan - don't know, don't care. Probably one of their Big Ten (11) yankee programs.

Mike Rhyner - he's a Texas A&M guy...albeit a rare and realistic one.

Greg "The Hammer" Williams - went to TCU, but talks more about Boyd (TX) High football. He never seems to get fired up about the Frogs even when they are winning. He doesn't buy the hype. Not sure if he claims a collegiate favorite at this point.

There really are no pro-'Horn people there, which is a blessing considering the newspaper down here is continually on its knees for UT. Fags.

Mike hates saxeT and OU equally. but he never comes out and says he's an Aggie fan. I think that's due to Gribbel being an over the top Aggie, and nobody wants to associate themselves with Gribbel.

They talk PLENTY of college football during the season. I agree that the hardline rambling on about the Rangers can get tiresome, but there's usually an E-news or something else that interrupts them. Now that they're the flagship station for the Cowboys, I'm anticipating the Hardline to have rough times since Mike hates the Cowboys.... and he REALLY hates Parcells. I listened a couple of weeks ago and the station came down on him about using "the New Jersey Con man". I still prefer "glorified gym teacher".

I am pretty sure that Bob came here from Virginia (Minnisota or Wisconsin or one of the Dakotas or something originally) and Dan came from Cincinatti, but it's been a while, so I can't really be sure.

Everything that Mike Rhyner hates (pretty much the same with Greggo) is total schtick. He used to bag on my music on air sometimes, but when I'd see him off the air he'd smile, be super cool and sing one of my tunes. It just suckers people in. Dallas loves the cowboys, so the hardline hates the cowboys. They will talk on and on about the worst team in Dallas because it gives them something different to say.

Anyway, I hated Dale Hansen too, but after I got around him for a bit, I realized that he's just really loud and opinionated. He's got about a zillion funny stories though. It's REALLY hard to get a word in edgewise with him, because in a crowd he dominates the conversation with his wit, booming voice and his size (big dude, and I ain't little). Anyway, that's why I love that I was the drunk jackass that made him talk about Switzer and fess up about why he was always down on him. He was worn out. I was louder than he was. Just a great moment. Really.

His problem with Barry hit a few places. Barry was wildly unpredicatable and ran a totally different type of ship than Jimmy. The thing that really ****ed Dale off was a radio incedent.

Dale is married and has this nice life that he's put together working his way up the ladder in Dallas. He's a rich guy and has a great family a big arsed house, etc. Dale also has an ego that might just make the Boz look humble. Dale likes to go out after gigs and drink and tell stories to all of the little people. He's very funny, so crowds will gather. He flirts with lots of great looking young women and they eat it up.

Barry and Dale had been out at the same get togethers a few times and they had done pleanty of talking and rubbing elbows with all of the muckity mucks. Barry was being interviewed on air about something and Dale was brought up, as was the night that they had hung out a bit. Barry made some reference to Dale getting together or scoring or something like that(Dale was NOT on the air with him, btw). Dale swore to me when we talked that he just flirts with these chicks, but on air Barry made it sound like it went a lot further. It was a flipant comment about Dale's infidelity and it really ****ed Dale off. Apparently, Dale's wife is informed of all of the comments made about Dale and Dale was ****ting bricks that this would F up his cushy lifestyle.

Barry shouldn't have popped off about something he didn't know about, but I would guess that Barry was just trying to be funny. You'd think that Dale's wife would know that he flirts with every hot chick within a jab of him.

And all the while I was yelling **** like, YEAH, but Barry is AWESOME! He's the greatest coach of ALL TIME!!! You just don't know Dale. You don't know ****, Dale. So, why do you hate Barry again?

Hey, he bought the ****in' drinks.

Some of you might dog the Sports Animal, but once I could start listening to it here in Fort Smith it was a godsend.
The sports talk radio in Arkansas has to be among the worst in the nation.
Everyone of the hosts has some current or past affiliation with the University of Arkansas, and no experience with programs outside of Arkansas.
I'm OU first, but support Arkansas after living here for almost eight years, but the folks on the radio here can give no perspective outside of Arkansas.
They're also total UofA sycophants, and won't give honest assessments of the sports programs, unless it's distributed from Fayetteville; they never have guests -- well almost never.
So as bad as you might think the Sports Animal is, be lucky you're not stuck with Arkansas sports radio.

People say they don't talk enough sports but hell how much sports do you need.. they break it down in good segments of College, NBA, NFL, Baseball and Hockey, outstanding comedy bits by Gordon Keith... and a few entertainment section for men.. Very good flow throughout the day..

I hear about the ticket from my fraternity brothers, and I am tired of it. I don't care how much better texas is at everything. The Animal is great radio talk for a local radio station. People around OKC and Tulsa want to hear Sooner football, Cowboy basketball, MLB baseball, and golf when there's a big tournament. The Animal talks about those subjects, and it fulfills the sports needs of the people of OKC. IT'S LOCAL...sorry but I've heard it a lot cause my entire pledge class was DFW and I'm Edmond

sports talk is generally boring. The ticket recognized this and, as someone above stated, created Maxim radio. As I see it, if you listen to Rome, Fox Sports or ESPN radio then you probably watched Friends or the Cosby show. If you like the Ticket you were probably in the Seinfeld / Simpsons camp. Nothing wrong with either group, except one is exponentionally more cool than the other.

Yes I'm glad we get it down here in this part of Oklahoma, which is basically Arkansas. As an Oklahoma City native who spent a year living in the Tulsa area, I basically listen to the Sports Animal because it's the only major Oklahoma based station I can get down here. There is just something comforting about being three hours away from good ol' OKC and still being able to hear a broadcast originating from there.

I admit it's kind of sad, but I even enjoy catching the commercials, just because they are talking about local stuff in OKC.

This is a no bs story about the Animal: I'm sitting at lunch one day with an unnamed local sports personality. He gets a call and runs through what happened at practice. He hangs up and says "that was so and so from the Sports Animal. he's the guy who does their phone in practice reports and I swear to god he never attends , just calls me to see what happened"
Whatever you guys have, it's ten times better than collin cowherd out here in la. This guy is the most biased person i've ever heard and ended up giving Sports Radio up altogether. USC is the only school that is good. Pac 10 is the only conference that is good. If you question him, you're an idiot, but of course, nobody ever questioned him.

if you like "infantile humor" & guys falling all over themselves trying
to be the one to laugh the hardest (@ unfunny crap) ; but not
much sports, then the ticket is for you.

best thing they ever had, was when Barry called-in, once a week
during football season. he is very entertaining.

only Norm H. knows (& talks) much about sports.

I agree with you, I wish they would have sold the tapes on the Barry interviews. The ticket got old real quick. Although Corby is a sooner fan, he really does suck!:pop:

The ticket would be much more palatable if they'd lose the potty humor that gets the 12 and 13 year olds exited, don't know why they persist with that and Ryner is one of the worst.
