Not a woman, but for beef, pork or poultry, hickory is what I use.

For fish it depends on whether it is fresh water or salt.

Fresh water fish use a wood that grows in fresh water areas. It is better to use a wood that is milder in its smoke. I prefer apple.

Salt water fish use any wood that grows in salt water areas. Mangrove is my favorite. It is highly illegal to cut it in Florida, but if you walk the shore where it is growing, there are always several sticks laying on the ground and you can pick those up and take with you.
