Well I finally made the plunge and ordered my iPod this weekend. I ordered the 30 gb version figuring that the newer one with the larger video screen might be out at the end of the year. Now I get to copy about 300 CDs over from Real Audio format to mp4 format. I have a question though. The default copy for itunes is 128 kbps. I also bought the ec2 headphones. Should I be saving the songs at a lower resolution or does it have an appreciable effect on sound quality? If so, I may end up returning the 30 gb for a 60 gb.

Oh and one more question for the Cingular users in the bunch. I ended up going with a Motorola SLVR to carry a few tunes with me and for the slim-design. I seriously thought about going with a Cingular 8125 for the wifi and internet access. However the only time I think I would actually use something like that is on the road which is only a few times a year. Cell based internet seems like a novelty to me at this time unless you just absolutely need to work on spreadsheets.

I got my 30 gb Ipod about a month ago and use the 128 kbps and it's sounds pretty good. Good luck loading 7500 songs, I'm at about 850 now.

with the video capability, i think i'd spring for 30 more GB anyway

i use 160 or 192 i think

i started out at 320 and that is too much, the files are too big, i need to re-rip those :(

I would load as many as possible in at 160-192. 128 is fair quality, but with those earbuds, I have them, you will be slightly disappointed at 128.

I rip everything at 160 kbps. I figure if I want anything better I'll use the actual cd on a big freaking stereo. Or live music.

128 sounds awesome on my computer's speakers (I've got good ones) and through my "real radio announcer headphones". I can't imagine that it'd sound worse through earbuds.

Also kinda unreleated note but it has to do with cell phones. Even though I hate sprint you guys that live in the OKC/Tulsa area and have Cox Cable, be looking for the partnership between Cox and Sprint.

Pretty soon you will be able to set your DVR from your (special) Cox/sprint phone.
