Hitchhikers and bums

For some reason I have a soft spot for hitchhikers. I passed one on the service road by my house two days ago and he wasn't necessarily a hitchhiker, just a guy walking on the service road. I was going too fast so I had to make a loop and come back and by then he was gone.

Fastforward to last night. After getting a can of Copenhagen @ 7-11 this guy comes out of the shadows telling me some story about getting out of jail for traffic tickets and he needs a ride to his apartment. He hops in and it was only about 15 minutes out of my way but I took him to his apartment. He never asked for money. My car still smells a little like stale cigarettes.

I'm the same way. I just wish more people in that situation were more sincere.

Last week, I picked up this old black dude carrying a gas can. He wasn't thumbing, I just stopped and asked him if he needed a lift to the gas station. He said his el camino had run out and he was stranded. I planned to pay for the gas and buy the guy some coffee and a sammich at the QT. We get out of the truck and i pump the gas for him while he stands there and watches. After the can is full, he says "I only have $2". It sorta aggravated me that he didn't tell me that BEFORE i blew past $2. Even though I had every intention of buying this guy a meal and $6 worth of gas, it would have been nice if he wouldn't have expected it.

btw, I always move the .357sig from the middle console to the door pocket on my left when picking up a hitchhiker, just in case ;)

Loved that movie growing up. Part 2 came out a few years back, had some of the same cast. It was brutal.

One time I was riding w/ my sister into town, and we came upon a dude hanging out underneath the I-40 bridge. He was not thumbing, he was kind of bent over like he had a real bad stomach ache or something. Since she has a softer heart tha I do about such situations she drove to Braums and bought him the following: double cheese burger w/ fries, a loaf of bread, and some other stuff. When she got back ito the car she hands to bag of food to me. As we are driving back to the dude, it occurs to me that I AM SNACKING ON THE STRANDED GUYS FRIES! I felt bad. What do I do to come back from that. They smelled so good in all thier french fried goodness. I felt like a :texan:
